Stories Success: Olivia and Manny Quit to follow the open-plan office, her passion -

olivia and manny success story traveling Greetings from somewhere still in Africa! I have not eaten by a lion yet (fortunately). This week I am sharing stories from readers who my tips and advice used to realize their travel dreams. If you've wondered how easy it is to replicate my advice, let these stories inspire and show you that the Council on this site can work for all!

Manny and Olivia are two 33-year-olds, the corporate lifestyle works as a marketing manager for two of the largest media / telecommunications conglomerates in Canada lived. In half a year, they saved $ 40,000 to finish their cabin jobs their passion for travel, to follow writing, and photography. I wanted to interview these two, because I believe it is important that to show, although I am an American, the money-saving advice that I talk about is universal

Nomadic Frosted:. Tell everyone about yourself
Manny and Olivia .: We are both 33 years old and from Toronto, Canada. In half a year we saved $ 40,000 and 25 July 2012 Canada left our trip around the world to start. We are planning for 14 to 18 months to be on the road.

How did this site? I am always curious
Olivia .: We first consider in October a round-the-world trip doing 2011. I mentioned it a few close friends, and one of them, a great journey Buff, mentioned that Nomadic Matt was a great resource. A look at the site and we understood why. It was really encouraging to see that we faced this choice is not alone and that other people out there like you have successfully followed their passion. It was simple, everything and hesitation was to plan excitement

What kind of trip you are planning
Manny:.? We were at a complete planning -the world tour (with the exception of South America). West to east, starting with Europe we would work in the way; UK and Iceland to Western Europe, then Europe, Africa, India, Southeast Asia, then in Australia and New Zealand and finally the Trans-Siberian Railway through Russia. Hopefully, we will end the tour with a trip to the Scandinavian countries, followed by Denmark and the Netherlands. We were not quite sure how long it would take, but our initial calculations amounted to almost two years in.

Were you afraid or nervous before you went on your trip? I was terrified
Olivia .: a world tour plan very overwhelming, and it is difficult to anticipate the problems you may face and prepare for them in advance. Read their experiences and "travel" with you a little calming stipulates that things work, even if they do not always work exactly as you planned.

How does my site when planning your trip
Olivia: If a large travel plan, especially a since more than one year, you really need budget, see what you can and can not. It's hard to find a good online resources that tell you what to pay for simple things like food and local transportation to be expected. Your site has saved us a lot of time and money to budget allowed us correctly with the guide and travel tips. We have recently become virtually addicted to your newsletter, as we move forward in our journey

Manny .: When we decided to take a trip around the world we do not sure what took our stuff to do . Should we keep it? Keep it? What about our house? A reality check came when we read your article on "How to save you money on your trip around the world." So to save money, not be stressed, and life experiencing our world really, we sold our belongings, including our home and car, and took off.

olivia and manny traveling You saved a lot of money for your trip. How did you do it
Manny: We have created a table outlines the average for each country daily living expenses and multiplied by the number of days that we spend in each country would , We factored in when we would be staying with family or friends, as well as transport costs. We then have a 15% buffer, knowing full well that it is almost impossible to stay within the budget properly. After averaging out the entire trip, we arrived at a daily spending amount: per day $ 100 CDN. We have paid attention have very realistic expectations, knowing that we would blow our budget in Western Europe and make for them in Asia. While we were working on the budget, we have begun to tighten our spending, especially dinners and nights. We tried to live from a salary and the bank the other. We have some money away in a high interest account interest and with $ 40,000 for the journey

Olivia .: I also participated in a number of different event planning contracts for the side, work 18 hours a day quite often. It was not easy, but it was manageable because we had a clear goal in mind. We have managed to not dip a point in our overall savings or money that we made from the sale of our house or car. In this way, we have no hesitation or regrets the money to spend on our adventure and it can actually enjoy hassle free. Within six months, we were able to raise $ 40,000. This allows us to approximately 0 days of travel.

This is a lot of traveling! What about life on the road has produced the biggest surprise
Manny and Olivia: We are really surprised at how well we get at foreign locations and different beds every night. Another surprise is the language barrier. This is often the concern of many travelers, but it is non-existent, when you actually start traveling. Sign language and other translator apps are actually add more fun and a new, fun dimension common interactions.

within budget stay can be a problem for many people. How do you two stay within the budget
Manny: We have a table where we keep track of every single cost. On the one hand we have categories such as restaurant, grocery store, transportation, entrance fees, gas, car, etc. One of the next sheet, we have totals for each category and then on average we spending by day, to see where we and when we have to start cutting back. We often share meals as general parts are gluttonously large. We have cut down our home addictions to alcohol and candy and thus another major part of the cost. We do not spend frivolously and actually fully equipped rooms for a small fee to rent and buy food, to save as much money on food. We eat a lot less and healthier, because much of the food we buy fresh and we even cook.

What a thing that you thought , would not be, was a challenge turned out
Olivia: I thought it would be a challenge, as little clothing to survive from. It turns out that I do not even all the things I need brought. It is easier to get on fewer things, by so that the repackaging is quick and the backpack is lighter. I will actually soon some clothes to ditching

Manny .: I thought it was a struggle not to have a phone that connected me with the outside world at all hours of the holding of the Day and night the way I used to in Canada. I have now realized I prefer to be and connect with my inner self, while instead to discover the beauty of nature on a daily basis from the network.

Any parting words of advice to inspire others to follow in your footsteps
Manny and Olivia: Since we started the people about our trip to tell us exactly the same reactions are met - and these reactions is not changed during our trip ?. No matter what they are at in life, how rich or poor they may be, they all say, "I wish I could do this, but I can not because ..." The "because" usually by "followed I bought an apartment" or "we are saving for a new car" or "I'm afraid to leave my job." it is understandable that we all need money to survive, but it makes no sense to survive, if you will not live. Our advice is that if you are on a real trip, you will notice how little one needs not only to survive, but to be truly happy. And that all these possessions are keep amassing only luggage. Everyone can do what we do, you just really want and take a chance.
