Old Kyoto provides a fascinating read. It is so effective you into this charming and nostalgic world of exquisite craftsmanship and traditional hospitality that it can be enjoyed certainly if they have, Kyoto or not to visit plans.
For visitors Kyoto the book both highly informative and user-friendly, and an invaluable resource for in-depth research on the older side of the city.
If there is a downside to this book, it's the fact that, sometimes, it may be difficult to find. Sometimes you are on Amazon.com to see it (to bring usually a fairly high price to be despite its a paperback book, and a fairly small one at that), while sometimes it is not available there.
But if it is really interested in the heart of the traditional Kyoto in always, the search is worth it

A Guide to Japanese Hot Springs

One of my favorite things about visiting Japan visited onsen (hot springs ) throughout the country.
Japan is full of onsen, and visit them to an exquisite experience. Apart from the soothing experience of immersion in the healing mineral waters, most onsen visits include a ryokan stay (Japanese-style inn) and local specialties to enjoy.
Anne Hotta and Yoko Ishiguro presented a guide to create native English speakers to help you navigate Japan's countless onsen, and it produces an amazing resource in A Guide to Japanese Hot Springs . Despite some disadvantages (see below), it remains a great resource for onsen lovers
. Note: This book is designed for true onsen enthusiasts who will not be satisfied with the visit once, twice or even three hot springs. Unless you are planning several onsen on the visit - or you often travel to Japan - you can not this book need
As mentioned above, A Guide to Japanese Hot Springs has some disadvantages. , It was published in 1986 and has not been updated, so the first thing you notice is that it feels a bit old fashioned.
There is also a little disappointing that it contains no more photos, as one of the highlights of visiting onsen is the natural beauty around them. And despite its wealth of information, it is not the easiest to navigate book. Until you get used to the way it is organized, it can be difficult to know where to begin or how to find what you are looking for.
Fortunately, the pros heavily outweigh the cons. Despite his 1986, most of the information remains true and relevant (things do not change very quickly in the world of hot springs).
Some details have inevitably changed in the last 30 years or, but as a guideline for Japan's onsen this book is an amazing starting point.
Where A Guide to Japanese Hot Springs seems really in the actual content is. The authors make for the lack of photos with their vivid descriptions, and they are clearly passionate about every aspect of the onsen experience.
The book in regions of Japan divided, each section includes a plurality of onsen authors recommend (the book has 0 hot springs in all). Each onsen description includes both important information and interesting tidbits that add flavor the book
details that can be found for each onsen :. location; Contact and access (some of these is out of date); the chemical composition of the water, as this will be hot from hot spring source varies; the health benefits of each onsen; Information about local festivals; and much more.
While English now speak much of this information can be found online, it is very convenient, they have all put together in a small book. If you onsen around Japan or love dream of onsen-hopping journey, this book is for you to buy
