do 12 attractions in Vegas, the casino no
Many people Participate tell me they hate Las Vegas and never want to leave. "I do not play, I do not want to get drunk, it's too expensive", etc., etc. The excuses are many, because Vegas is always represented by the glitz and glamor of the Strip. But there is so much more to Vegas than just this stretch of hotels, casinos and restaurants -. And let this one aspect of the city hold off an error
Every time I go to Vegas, I sucked in the famous Strip. I leave it as good as ever. Days by the pool and nights (do bad) go at the blackjack table, by quickly, and before I know it, it's time to go home. It is easy to lose track of time. I often do not mind. I enjoy all the restaurants, shows, bars and people watching to do on the Strip.
But every time I leave, I vow to see more of Vegas. "Las Vegas" is almost synonymous with "Strip", but there is plenty in the town to do that does not include the casinos. At each visit to Las Vegas, I'm trying to break from the glitz and put something new, something different, and something that does not bring me twenty on red with itself.
give a chance Vegas. Here's a list of things to do that proves there is far more to offer than just breakfast, free drinks and blackjack:
Visit the Grand Canyon
Although it is far from Vegas there are many companies that offer day trips and joint helicopter rides into the canyon. Because of the time involved, you do not get much time in the canyon to spend, but if you want a quick look and know that you are not going to get there one more time, this is an (expensive) option.
hike Red Rock
Outside the city, the beautiful Red Rock Canyon offers a lot of easy and strenuous hiking and mountain biking trails. The gorge is surrounded by a road and each base has a parking lot where you can park your car to go hiking before drive to the next trailhead. I liked really get off the Strip to the desert on foot, and executing all the buffet food. Make sure to come early in the morning before it gets too hot, and bring a lot of water. Admission is $ 7 per car.
to Hoover Dam go
The world famous Hoover Dam is located about an hour from Las Vegas. There are guided tours of the dam, a museum, which includes a history of the dam and the region, and, of course, many ways to go over the dam and take lots of photos. As history buff, I loved the tour and learning about the mechanics to build behind the dam. And as someone afraid of heights, I was enjoying the scenery far back from the edge of vantage!
Have fun at Lake Mead
The lake, the Hoover Dam has built about any type of water-based activities you of, and a visit can think here is a great way to enjoy some time on the water, without jockey for pool space by some drunk college kids. You can do a lot of activities with the help of guest services at the casino to organize, but also for more reasonable prices, look online, or on foot in the tour shops along the Strip.
Hang in Boulder City
on the way to Hoover Dam, this suburban should give you a taste of local life in the region. Milos is the hot restaurant in this city. There is a main street and some shops, but not much more than that. But "doing things" despite the lack of to stroll this quiet little community is a nice contrast to the crowds of Vegas.
Visit the Mob Museum
Located in the center of Las Vegas, The Mob Museum shows both sides of the notorious battle between organized crime and the Prosecution. It opened last year and was inaugurated by Mayor Oscar Goodman, who also happens to be the lawyer for mobsters in the city. (Side note: his steak restaurant, Oscar is really delicious.) There are high-tech theater presentations, one-of-a-kind artifacts and interactive exhibits. It will teach you so immortalized in movies like casino on Vegas.
with the locals eat
The strip has some of the best food in the world, and with the amount of flows of money through this road, it is easy to see Why. I have some world-class meals had here, but if you want to get a taste of the local Vegas food, you need to off the beaten path to wander off and try some of these locations:
- Raku
- Lotus of Siam
- Firefly
- Sushi Mon
more on food -> here is a list of affordable and delicious restaurants in Las Vegas.
Head downtown to Fremont Street
, the gloss, the lights, and the high prices of the Strip are all a far-off land, compared to the downtown Las Vegas. Find sketchy bars, sad casinos, cheap drinks and find much more of a New Orleans Bourbon Street vibe. It is a great area for entertainment, people watching, cheap slots, cheaper drinks and a relaxed atmosphere. Ensure the Golden Nugget where you see the shark tank and check-out.
Golf
There are many golf courses in Las Vegas, including Shadow Creek, one of the best in the world. If you are not a member of a local club, many of the casinos arrange day passes.
Visit the Neon Museum
This outdoor set is loaded with huge character, once you in casinos like the Silver Slipper, Stardust and El Cortez waved. Now this casino is the cemetery, you can explore the city sinful past. The museum expanded recently and now offers more characters, a park, and tours of their collection. It's pretty cool wander through these old characters to learn the history of the city as you go, and get a different perspective on Vegas.
Relive the past in Bonnie Springs
pure tourist cheese (but that can be fun), Bonnie Springs Ranch is a former mining town that now a "ghost town", where you can experience life in the old west, riding, and watch reenacted shootings.
on the first Friday Artistic Get
on the first Friday of each month, the city fills up with exhibits and displays by local artists during First Friday. It's free and a great way to get a feel for the local art scene and mix with locals. Be sure to also check out 18b Arts District, the art center of Las Vegas, which is home to cool bars, shops, galleries and much more.
It is easy to focus on Las Vegas as the bright and dazzling casinos and resorts that line and surrounding the main boulevard. Finally, it is what most people see the advertisements; everything else is just an afterthought. But I always find it to Las Vegas is much more than the casinos on the Strip - there is food, good shows, entertainment and many activities in nature. It's not all slot machines and meals. If the image that you can stop, you miss on a dynamic and ever-changing city, surrounded by beautiful desert landscapes
