Giving Thanks Today
Today is Thanksgiving in the United States and American families all come together family to celebrate life, and all the good that has happened in the past year ,
Thanksgiving was established as a holiday in 1863 during the American Civil War. It should bring the country together if the Americans were most divided they had ever been. Thanksgiving was seen as a way to unite the divided country, remember our pioneering spirit, and to heal the wounds of war.
The actual first Thanksgiving (with the Pilgrims and Native Americans) happened much different, of course. There was more to celebrate in accordance with the ancient tradition of harvesting (and the fact that they survived the first year!).
When I (again) to spend the day away from America, I can not help but miss it a bit. It is very special - and very American - about today, to be with family and friends and do nothing but food. But Thanksgiving is also long enough to pause between the turkey and the pumpkin pie thank for all the blessings of life.
The way I think about that day and what it means, I am grateful. As 2011 comes to an end, I can not help thinking may, however, about the incredible year that was, and everything I be grateful for .
I am grateful that I got the chance to become an author. I never thought I would wake up one day and have a large publishing (Penguin) E-mail to me, eager to put one of my e-books in print. I am still in shock and can not go into Barnes and Noble wait and see my book there.
I am grateful for all the amazing people who read my site. I'm still not sure why you do it, but thank you for my comment area to fill with thoughtful discussion. It makes me to be better, strive and produce interesting content.
I am grateful for all the people who mean not constructive comments on the site write so well. They keep me on my toes, make me explain everything in detail, and to inspire a lot of posts. I am motivated by their negativity.
I am grateful for all the people who tell me emails send me that I inspired them all over the world on the way. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to leave the world a better place; knowing has easily inhaled even a life, because you have lived - . This was achieved is to have: "I still find appalling amazing that I inspire people. That alone makes everything matter.
I am grateful that I had the unique opportunity for five years to travel. I never expected to take this trip for so long, but it has and I am blessed for it.
I am grateful for all the other travelers I met on the street. When I get jaded, her excitement reminds me why I started in the first place.
I am grateful for all the amazing bloggers out there. It's great to meet them, as I travel around the world, and it's great to have people there who share my love of the Internet and travel.
I am grateful for them to make online capable. to have this site to work in a position of a beach in Thailand, and do what I love, is the best job in the world. I do not ever want to see a cell.
I am grateful for all the wonderful friends and great family I have. You are nothing but awesome.
Mostly, I'm just grateful for life and have so many great things to be grateful for. I live this amazing life, and I often wake up thinking, "Damn, life is really good. Maybe too good. Am I dreaming?" I'm really happy be able to do that. You never know how quickly can change your life, and in 2011 was so far a very good year. All good things must come to an end, but at some point by then, I'm only go so long to ride this wave as it goes.
Reading the news about the economy down, unemployment, social unrest and suffering around the world, I'm just reminded of how lucky and fortunate I am to have a job, my health, and a good network of friends and family.
Since not all is so happy. So today, as you give thanks for your own blessings, I hope you remember and help those in need. Not just today, but every day.
Everyone should always have at least one thing to be thankful for.
What are you thankful for today?
