My Guide to Greek Food
I have never eaten really much Greek food. I ever knew about everything: it had odd names, gyros were really good, and I liked the Greek salad. I am currently visiting the Greek islands in Greece, and on this trip I was determined to dig into the local food. So far, all my meals traditional Greek cuisine have been involved in a revolving door of new dishes. My thoughts? Greek food is delicious . There is a lot of variety, a lot of robust flavors and tons of cheese and meat. Besides, I always thought as a master of things to do the Italians with eggplant, but the Greeks do just as delicious a job. After some really "hard" research, here are some of my favorite dishes: is
Moussaka
This eggplant, cheese and meat dish by far my favorite Greek dish , I love eggplant (it is one of my favorite foods), and this is the best. (I also like the stuffed eggplant). The meat and eggplant are flavorful cheese cooked with just the right amount of tomato sauce. In many ways it is reminiscent of eggplant Parmesan, but much less boldly.
Greek salad
I always thought greek salad was an American invention in the same way Chinese food is Americanized with crab rangoons and sesame chicken. It turned out that I was wrong. Of course, in Greece it is however different. There are on top no salad, a lot more tomatoes, and a large block of feta cheese. It is not what I go home; it's much better. I tend to have a lot for lunch
Souvlaki
This is the complete package. Meat, rice and salad. You get a full meal with this, and the portions are quite large - no need for a starter! Souvlaki is what we Americans call a kebab, skewers of meat and vegetables grilled to perfection. It is simply delicious. I love food from the grill. There is nothing better than the mix of grilled tomato and chicken in his mouth.
Fried Cheese
There are to say much about this court. It is fried to heart-clogging goodness a big block of cheese. Make sure that you eat it immediately before the cheese is hard.
Stuffed vine leaves
Usually from grape leaves stuffed with rice and meat, which are a great appetizer. Pinkies large portions make them easy to eat, the meat is very juicy, and the sauce (do not know what it is) adds a lot of flavor to. It is a very traditional dish to Greece and Turkey. They are everywhere. They are a great snack food!
Kleftiko
lamb on the bone, this dish is juicy and savory. The lamb is mouthwatering. It is said that this dish comes from bandits steal the lambs used and boil it to be seen in closed boxes to avoid. Cooking meat in this way keeps the flavors and makes the meat mouthwatering. There are also a lot of garlic and lemon with this dish.
Gyro
These packages are a late-night snack staple for me. For just three euros I dig them in every night on the way home from a night out. They are delicious unhealthy ... especially when they put fries French in them! A cheap and quick meal, it's like they were created for all travelers!
Now this is just a small (emphasis on small ) selection of Greek food. It is exactly what I have tried and liked. There are many more out there, I still have to try, although I will make a great effort! If you do not make it to these courts to Greece, try at your local Greek place. Your stomach will thank you. After writing this article, I'm hungry to get me, and luckily there is for dinner here. I'm trying to get away from more delicious food. Suggestions are welcome
