Sick in Madrid
First I had big plans for Madrid. I would be here for a week, which would make me catch up on work permit, explore many of the city, and out to do all cheap things. This post has a great primer to be traveling on to Madrid. Then I got sick. One week in Valencia and Barcelona left me with a bit of a cold. My first two days in Madrid slept spent. Most of yesterday did the same output. My trip to Madrid will be a short, neutered, highlighted version, instead of the in-depth look I wanted.
On Twitter, I was to give a few people chastised in my cold and not to see the city. As a traveler, what do you do if you get sick? If you give in, rest, sleep, and say "maybe next time", or Suck it up and go, even if it means that you will be ill for longer? I do not think either is right or wrong. If you have a limited time in a place that you could not get back, they then suck up can go home a few days of the disease to be worth. If you back up, it might be or have more time again, I would sleep and better. They are the little time you have left to enjoy in the city, much more. If you are traveling for a while, you want to be truly weeks sick? There really is no right answer here.
Everyone deals with grief differently. I'm a big baby about it. I often do not get sick, so when I do, I only like to hide until it's over. Other people learn to work while being sick. Not me. I like to sleep. Plus, I have as long as I want. I'll be traveling for months, and I have no desire to drink Guinness, experience French wine in Bordeaux, or do Paris nightlife with a cold. I do not regret most of my Madrid travel sleep away. You have to do what you have to. On the road, there is no right or wrong way-there is only your experience.
This is why I've spent today resting nearly all day. It's my last day here. Tomorrow I leave for Dublin before going to Bordeaux. I also want to, because to be rested for both goals when I get my friends again, I'll sleep for days in a position to do not have the luxury.
So I see something of Madrid? A little bit. I went to yesterday and today for a few hours. Madrid is a much nicer city than Barcelona. The roads are wider, there is less graffiti, the buildings are typically Spanish, and the architecture is more historical. Moreover, the mood is much quieter than Barcelona.
But that's about all I can say Madrid. I do not have any good restaurants, I was not in a bar. I researched very little. I wanted to write about the way to save money in Madrid, but all I can tell you is that the Prado Museum is free from 6-7.30pm, and you will save 3 € if you a 10-trip subway pass buy. Mary I Wanna Go It did take me to a lovely tapas yesterday near the History Museum (which is closed for renovation).
I wish I could report to Madrid more. It seems like a very interesting city with lots to do. Unfortunately, the city took a back seat to my cold. But at least now, I am ready to explore Dublin and hopefully give you to read a much more informative and interesting article. But if I do not give to read an interesting article, I can at least show what Spider-Man is up to these days:
I think he really let go.
