Trip starts at home
If you think travel is something that only happens when you take flights abroad, long bus rides or cross-country train , you're missing a world of opportunity much closer to home.
course are forgiven for travel exclusively with foreign countries, exotic foods and curious link dress habits. That is, after all, the image of the Travel Channel and countless glossy magazines from the days of Marco Polo, David Livingston, and other great explorers and immortalized passed.
But the truth is that most of us find compelling about traveling the novelty of it. Travel drives us out of our daily habits and in a different mentality in which everything, even underwear, Epiphany seems hanging to dry.
As mentioned travel writer Pico Iyer Recalls travel, the physical aspect is not nearly as important as the mental. It is nice to find yourself halfway around the world, in the excitement of a Moroccan market or the sounds of bells echoed mass submerged by a cobblestone square, but it is not the only way to travel.
There is unquestionably a very amazing feeling of freedom that a strange scene comes from beholding. I distinctly remember, spend an entire afternoon just in the city Udiapur stares, India to think of the Monsoon Palace, how great it was to be there, to anything.
, it is possible that remarkable Enter stay-like mentality without leaving your hometown ever? That's a question I asked myself a lot in the past year, since for a variety of reasons, I was not able to take more than a few short, two-week trips.
I am happy to report the answer that is so, there is a possibility that the travel setting to enter without leave really literal backyard, but it has a bit more effort than just an airplane somewhere novel and can over you the novelty wash reinforcement.
When traveling to foreign countries is a kind of sledgehammer for mental walls overturn explore your hometown is a bit of digging with a spoon out of prison - it takes more work, but with some perseverance you can still get past the walls of the habit.
The trick to get your mentality at home entering your mind is from the "I'm just at home" to get mentality. Too often, we simply assume today as yesterday to be much, but there's really no reason to think that. I have found that one of the best ways seem to make your home town like a strange place, is to rotate the traveler favorite tool. The Camera
Over the past year I have tried to make every day a picture. I failed, but forced me into the world to look closer you are to me the way I saw things that did change
Everyone is different, but here are a few of the other things I tried. :
- planning Desk - Just about every town, no matter how small, has at least one museum, objects of historic or other point of interest that you probably do not know. Find a few and visit them one by one in a series of weekend trips
- In conversation with a new person each day -. I am a freelance writer and often work in cafes, but with my headphones on, while deeply focused on something. I forced myself began to take breaks and introduce myself to strangers on these breaks. Firstly, it is strange, but along other things with seeing, people meet on the street is a travel highlights. I will not lie, I have a few embarrassing moments with strangers had at home, but I also have some new friends you. It is a challenge, but worth it
- walks -. You might think you all have seen, it is to see in your home town, but if your perspective as a driving commute shift a whole new world to a long walk, open often until
- guide to your hometown Checking out - you are one of two things to learn from it. in the best scenario you might find some things you did not know about. On the other hand this is could primarily only show how wildly inaccurate and, uh, misguided guide are. All of these errors and bad advice for people to your hometown headline? Yup, you follow the same kind of bad recommendations when traveling
- a Start a Blog -. Although not necessary, I have found that a blog to write about your travels is good motivator to go and find new things, which in turn makes you a traveler. Write down a brief comment on your trip to the local brewery or park. Sure, probably nobody will read it, but that's not the point, which is primarily for you, not the audience.
I came up with the idea of my hometown as a way of exploring to keep this incredible feeling of freedom I had on my last extended trip. It is definitely not easy, but it was worth it, and while the free feeling at home may be volatile more, you can still find.
