From pencils to airplanes: an update on FLYTE

From pencils to airplanes: an update on FLYTE -

help students travel overseas with FLYTE
In July I started a new charitable foundation named The basis for learning and youth travel Education [1945005increase] (FLYTE) money for high schools in rural and low-income communities, so that they send their students on international study trips.

Since its introduction, we have raised $ 11,400! First I want to say thank you, thank you! This is totally awesome! Your support means so much for me and for the students, we would support. Together we are well on the way successfully our first trip to the financing.

Today I want to tell you more about FLYTE and answer some questions, many have asked of you, since I first wrote about the organization.

asking for years, I know how I could more people travel and see the big, beautiful world we inhabit. As international travelers, we have a unique opportunity to break down barriers, promote cultural exchanges and to create a positive impact on communities around the world. We can banish stereotypes of our own cultures, stimulate the local economy and bring fresh ideas and perspectives. Travel can be life changing - not only for the destination you visit, but also for themselves We better version of itself, and with a better understanding of the world away

My solution :.. Receiving children traveling. Let's face it: people are the future. Traveling exposes students to different ideas, cultures and people in a critical developmental period in their lives. FLYTE is a vehicle also bring life to the subjects they learn in school and help them become global citizens.

After I developed this idea and established the guiding principles for FLYTE, I decided our fundraising kick-off and immediately get to work! I wanted to make the most of our time and resources, while we accept applications from schools started. I have spent countless hours talking to people who work in education, to travel and to obtain the non-profit world insight and knowledge, and to develop best practices.

Our main objective this year is to raise $ 250,000 to ensure that we can offer five trips in our first two years, keep a minimum reserve fund for emergencies and to administrative costs (as a director, web hosting to cover fundraising and mailings) and other costs. The school trips, even on a minimal budget will cost an average of $ 45,000 to fully fund groups of 15 students and three chaperones. (This means that more than 80% of the raised money would go directly to funding school programs. This is definitely not an organization to output the majority of the money on raising more money!)

I was leading groups abroad for several years and have budgets to create a lot of experience. We assume that trips per student costs on average $ 2,500, depending on their destination. Here's how we that break for a nine-day trip:

  • Flight: $ 500-1000
  • Passport: $ 0
  • Visa fees: $ 30
  • travel insurance: free (thanks to World Nomads)
  • Lodging: $ 270 ($ 30 per night)
  • Food: $ 270 ($ 30 per day)
  • Transport: $ 250
  • activities: $ 700
  • cushion (unknown cost): 0 $
  • total : $ 2.340 to 2.840
  • rounded: $ 2,400- 200

we will continue to build partnerships with companies that can keep the cost of our program low, so that we again can not set cost savings in the program directly and abroad take more groups of students. World Nomads has agreed to a travel insurance for the group to provide, and Context Travel and walking trails have offered to provide LLC walking and guided tours available. These companies offered their services free to us because, like you and me, they believe more people should travel more. I was on my site a big fan of this company and am thrilled to have them behind us! (I want to make clear that neither I nor the company involved, any kind of financial "setback" receives, and all our service contracts are held to IRS standards. No one's pockets are padded here.) (We have been in connection with a existing Education Foundation Global called Glimpse. they have provided excellent guidance, advice available, and introductions. many thanks to them!)

As for students and schools, we have had and interest a variety of applications, but we on receiving new applications are still open, so if you are, or know of, a teacher whose students would benefit from a trip overseas, you will find on this page for our program to apply. Our goal is a school that by the end of October.

FLYTE is to have fully transparent elected to his expenses. IRS rules (and only good right ethics) we dictate keep annual reports, which will be accessible online and available to anyone who wants to see where we are assigned to our resources. We will compile our own Annual Report for trailers that comply not only transparency, but also show a clear assessment of the impact of our programs.

Now, with a new school year starting, I would like to make another plea for support.

At the moment, we are concentrating all our efforts on increasing enough money for a trip next spring. We need another $ 30,000 to make this happen. If we can take a trip finance, we are in the right direction and help "take flyte" this organization (see what I did there?).

If anyone who reads this site donated only $ 10 we! could finance the entire organization for more than a year Do you think that - for less than the cost of a night in a hostel, you can help to make a difference in a young person's life. You can help someone teach the power of travel and give him or her the opportunity to see a world that they may never have been possible. Let the power of travel to third parties us!

Even better, your donation will receive updates about the student expeditions to access their progress and our Foundation events and news of the teachers and students on their travels. Fans will have exclusive access to the latest information about how to help change the lives of the next generation.

Note . We are still waiting for our application IRS to come back, so we have 501 (c) 3 status. Immediately Your donations are not tax deductible. This is a lengthy process, but the application is on the way! I'll let you know when we get our status! I want it more than you

FLYTE begins to take off with your help - even to go but we have a long way. There is a lot of work going on just behind the scenes, and I'll update again in another month, how things go!

Not many people have the chance to travel. There are children who never pass through their city, let alone leave their country. There are children whose parents and schools do not have the resources to buy books and to send Upgrade Offer care children abroad.

you so often hear from travelers who take, take, take. Now, let's show that travelers give, give and give. We have become better people because of our travels and other deserve this opportunity also.

Let us be a community that returns to man.
