Hanging Out in Hong Kong
And I didn 't to any planning for my trip either to Hong Kong. I knew nothing about the city other than that I eat dumplings while there. But I knew who would know what to do - you. So I did something I have not done before: I leave my readers to plan my trip. I asked people on Facebook and Twitter things propose to see and do and then used to their responses as a guide. I was very impressed and overwhelmed by the outpouring of ideas and information. I knew I never be able, in all I had in Hong Kong proposed three days to do.
But I tried.
Friday Night
When I on Hong Kong Iceland arrived at my guesthouse from the airport, it was for dinner and I was strong jetlag. After eating my neighborhood dinner (delicious fried chicken and rice) and explore, I collapsed into bed at 09.00 and fell asleep within minutes. So much for the Friday night!
Saturday
Some people recommend Ocean Park, so that's where I went. It is a theme park, the Giant Panda Bear, rides, and an aquarium features. I've never had before a giant panda and was pretty excited to see, to see one, even though I was not so excited when it decided to do a # 2 in front of me. The was more than I wanted to see. I spent the day photographing pandas, enjoy a few roller coasters and water slides and amazed at how you still find large groups with a flag-holding guide in an amusement park. I mean, it is so difficult to find your way through a small amusement park? PLUS, the leaders microphones so they could about ... what to talk about? Go on the rides? Sometimes I just do not get these groups.
To be honest, that's a pretty lame amusement. The aquarium has a lot of interesting fish. The rides are less than thrilling. The food is bland. It's way too crowded. I would not go back to Ocean Park. The only reason to go there, a giant panda is seen. It is worth the entry alone
had been that night, I, I followed the advice of many on Twitter. I Lan Kwai Fong went. This area of the city is one of the main nightlife district and is especially popular with expats and tourists. It's pretty much all foreigners. It was going on a Carnival, and the streets were lined with beer sellers, food vendors, music and dancing girls. After generous amounts of beer, my friend and I called it a night, and I went back home to finally enter my jetlag.
Sunday
Waking early, I plowed through some work and then Kowloon island explored. I went to the harbor and went to Kowloon Park, which is a nice place. I do not know if it's just a Sunday, which is, but wherever I went, I met a small group of Muslim women sit, talk, eat, and sometimes sing. Maybe someone from the area can clue me in on why it only Muslim women (I suspect from Indonesia) who did this.
The park is an excellent way to cool off, because it is very good in the shade, although I the public pool was super sad closed until March. I mean, come on city officials, it's still damn hot in November
away disappointed walk and sweat, I took the advice of any travel blogger known to man - I visited the famous Chungking Mansions , Known as dilapidated, run down, and a large fire, I could not imagine staying in one of the guest houses in the building me. Sure, they are really cheap, but also for me, that's too cheap. However, a bright spot, that there are some really good Indian food stalls and restaurants on the ground floor. Delicious food at a good price. And if you need any reason a stolen phone, this is the place to go. They have everything.
Monday
I have the Ngong Ping 360 on my last day. This is a cable car that takes you through Lantau Iceland and to see to the famous giant Buddha. My whole weekend in Hong Kong was nice, warm and sunny, but the day I opted for a stunning view of the city, to do the cable car ride, it was raining. It was cloudy. It got cold. I could hardly see a few feet in front of me. But because I have an incredible fear of heights, which could have been a good thing. I have at my friend most of the journey cursing me take this thing in trying not to look down. I was unhappy. Sure, the scenery was impressive when the clouds broke back on the road, but it's not an experience that I relive.
And the Buddha statue? It's pretty awesome. It was gigantic and ornate. I was very impressed with him.
After only a few seconds in Hong Kong, I did not recognize three days nearly enough time was to explore the city. I need more time. Much more time. I did not make it to Macau. Bad weather prevented me for a look at the city at night on the summit of the position. I missed the fireworks. I do not have some of the outer islands or small villages. I just missed her so much.
But the food ... the food! Hong Kong is a foodie town, if it ever was. At each corner is an amazing pasta, dumplings or dim sum restaurant. Smells of noodles and pork and fried chicken in the air. My nose me delicious food stalls out for three days. And as an avid sushi lovers, I was overjoyed to find that there seemed to be a decent quality sushi restaurant everywhere I went.
I scratched hardly on the surface of this fabulous and fascinating city. And as he also said that as a very generous with the amount of interest, I did.
I loved Hong Kong and regret come to Asia so often to have never done this before. Hong Kong is simply an amazing and dynamic city that you can visit, and I need for a much longer visit return.
