Saturday Location: Rotorua
Rotorua, New Zealand is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the North Island. (UN) caress rotor Vegas, this city is the starting point for nature walks, Maori cultural experiences, trips to the foul geysers, and luxury spas. In addition famous for its hordes of tourists, this city is famous for its smell. The sulfur sources emit a funky odor that can be smelled throughout the city. But whatever people smell go away to complain, I did not notice, so Rotorua is good in my book. Perhaps the smell of sulfur is left only with them from the geyser. I dont know.
Like most cities I have seen in New Zealand, Rotorua is quite small. (New Zealand: 5 million people, 30 million sheep) Everything is centrally located to a few streets. There really is not much in Town- a couple of bars and a handful of restaurants and shops to make. The real attraction is all the activities around the city, people can do. You can easily fill a couple of days here. Here are some of the great things to fill the day:
Visit the Whaka Thermal Reserve If you also see geysers, as the thermal reserve is a good place some how learn about the natural history and geology of the region. While it is not free to get into, the tours are free. The reserve is divided into two parts, with the touristic one, Te Puia, closet in the city.
head into the lake. Rotorua is located on a lake. There is even an island in the middle. A good way to spend an afternoon walk along the lake and cruising around the island. Only wear sunscreen! The burning time here in NZ 7 minutes ... and believe me, it is a quick 7 minutes!
go the city. Rotorua has a large museum that gives you a look at this city's history. It's been around for over 250 years, a tourist town, although tourism was a bit difficult at the beginning again. The Government Gardens are very beautiful to look. I found walking around the city was very charming and a great way to spend an hour. (There is a small town).
Catch a Maori Cultural Show. Rotorua has one of the largest population of New Zealand Maoris and is the center of cultural experience tours. Many of them are a bit like Disney World and pretty cheesy. But they are a great way to learn about the Maoris, to see some of their dances, and eat a big meal at the end. So make sure you. On a good tour The better cost more money, but the extra cost is worth an authentic experience.
go Zorbing . This is a popular activity with backpackers. You get into a huge put see a hill and rolled the ball. I imagine it is very similar to what it means, would be in a washing machine. It is quite expensive for the 5 seconds you get, though, so I do not do it. You also have the option to add water into the ball, which is probably really in a washing machine to be like.
Relax in a hot bath . All sulphurous springs in the area means that there are many hot springs to relax. It is the great Polynesian Spa, where you pay for the whole day access and drinks. The Blue Baths also has a heated pool. If you relax just a lazy day, a heated pool / spa want, the way to go. I spent a good afternoon at the Polynesian Spa and I felt like a new person.
If you are traveling in New Zealand, you are likely to stop here. I would not say that Rotorua will remain as one of my highlights in memory, but it is definitely spend a cool place for a few days.
