This one time, during the trip ....
Last weekend I met some old friends from college I have not seen since graduation. They wanted one thing about my travels to know: "What were my crazy stories What the wild things that happened to me?" I do not think often about the crazy things that happen while I'm traveling. To me they are only part of the entire trip adventure stories not good or worse than any other. Also, the bad still good. Yet forced to think about it, I have a lot of random, realized crazy and interesting things have happened to me in the last 4 years, highlights of which include:
I have lost myself in the jungle . During a trip to Costa Rica to take my friends and I finished reading the map wrong and wandered lost through Arenal National Park without a flashlight, food or water. What you should see a quick trip to the sun, turned out to be a 5-hour ordeal. When night came, we have our cameras and flashlights, and tried to follow our tracks back. We finally found a road, waved a car down, and bribed him to take us back to the city.
Even my bus broke in the outback. While in Western Australia Travel, our tour bus broke down in the middle of the outback bottom right after we had lost cell phone reception. We waited 3 hours for a car our driver to the nearest town and 2 more for the tow truck to take. It was a great time we though- drank our beer, played trivia games and worked on our tan. It was a bonding experience.
entered My buddy my regulator of . While diving to learn, my partner stepped accidentally my regulator out of my mouth 15 feet underwater. Luckily I have to breathe in memory and grab my regulator. Within seconds, my teacher was my support, but it was a frightening experience and it took me about 10 minutes to calm and half oxygen tank. I never breathed so deeply in my life.
I almost got in a fight with a taxi driver in Amsterdam. Back From Amsterdam Casino, I split a cab with two Russians who were in the same direction. I first came out and paid my part of the cab ride to them. The driver wanted me to pay for the whole trip. No way, I said, we split it. This is what I owe, and I got out. The Russians were the fine and took my money, but the taxi driver was not. He also got out and he decided something it wanted. I stood my ground, the Russians looked broad in the car, and the driver threatened me. When he was his scare tactics not to go to work, he called me in Turkish, got in the cab back and drove off.
I permanently marked a friend. years ago at a beach party in Thailand, my friend (which is the size of a small truck) and I (not the size of a truck) decided we should film us, where I beat him rings. Running in the frame, I tackle it and we struggle for a bit. A friend of my guesthouse runs over, breaking off. "Dude, what are you doing? It's huge!" "Do not worry, we are friends." I replied. At this time, I noticed my friend was bleeding. Apparently I tackled him cut his arm open on a couple of beer bottles and sliced. Rushing him to the hospital, we have sewn him, but until now he has three large scars most of his left arm covered. I think I do not know my own strength.
I fell into the ocean . Back in 06 when I was in Italy, I was taking some photos of the Cinque Terre. I tried to get a good angle and this boat ramp turned down. Well, I missed the seaweed on the ramp grows, slipped (flip-flops do not give good traction), and pushed the boat ramp into the water. While I was soaking wet, broke the worst of the camera I had bought 2 months before I went on my trip. That and the Italian Children laughing this whole scene about me experienced.
Thai police have drunk myself. On several occasions. One of my favorite streets in Thailand's Soi 11 and at the beginning of the street is a food stall where every night drinking these policemen. One night they called me, after I finished my soup and offered me a whiskey. They do not say to policemen in Thailand not so I drank. And drank. And drank some more. Then would drink every time I walked by, we and eat. I would teach them English, she has taught me bad words in Thai. It was a great experience.
Speaking of Thailand, I have drugged there once . For my last night in Thailand in 07, my friend Dan and I went out for a few drinks. We started with our usual Red Bull and vodka. After that, I do not know what has happened. The next thing I remember waking up the next morning Dan Couch. Knocking on Dan door, he opens it and goes, "What are you doing here?" We had no memory of the previous night, but I still had my ID and my money. Who drugged us did do such a bad job, but I make it a point my drinks is taken at all to watch.
Two M87 grenades exploded near me. A few months ago, Thailand had political turmoil that led to several days of street fighting in Bangkok. Much of the city was set on fire. I already weeks ago, but before I did, while dinner in the area Silom food, 2 M87 grenades went to my right. It's the closest I ever plan again to get something so near.
I was a food poisoning hospitalized . While in Central America, I ate some bad sushi and home to the United States when returning, found out that I had a parasite that my colon had kindled so much it was effectively closed. I was in the hospital for 3 days on a morphine drip. When I got out, I was so thin, told me my girlfriend at the time, I looked like Skeletor.
take trips through the good with the bad. On the surface of these transactions, you ask, do could why I go back to these places, do not scared, or continue on a journey. It's because the unexpected makes life interesting. Nothing is without risk, and each of these stories led to a chance or binding that would not otherwise have occurred.
