I'm off to Iceland

I'm off to Iceland -

The Northern Lights coloring the sky in Iceland and making it look surreal
Next Tuesday, I make good on a promise Birthday. Last year I wrote a blog "to do 19 things before I turn 35," mentioned as a way to steer my travels. But when I turned 33 this year, I realized I on this list a single thing had not been reached, which was kind of depressing. So in order to live my own objectives, I pulled the trigger and booked air tickets to destinations on this list (Iceland, in the Caribbean, and Hong Kong).

And so next Tuesday, I fly to Iceland to finally my internal life of promise to go more new places. I wanted so long to make this trip, as I have to travel. I'm not going to spend for 10 days, and during a week and a half as long in a country that offers so much, it will be enough to explore at least some of the highlights.

from the photos seem Iceland as a paradise for nature lovers -. giant waterfalls cutting through valleys, huge geysers, glaciers, and vast, rugged mountains going for as far as the eye that beg to be climbed

I'm so excited! (Fingers crossed to see an opportunity for the northern lights!)

Alas, Iceland is also very expensive. I know that the high cost, a lot of people keeps so Iceland will visit not only a new place for me, but it will also each target a budget traveler's paradise to try to make some of my search. Sometimes it is feasible, it is sometimes not - but I'll try

I have a feeling that Iceland will be easier on a budget to enjoy, as I think !. I can not prove yet (I have not been), but my gut tells me it is, so I remain optimistic. Here is my plan to save money is:

  1. Couchsurfing as much as possible . This not only saves money, but to meet the locals and get to know about the local culture, I learn. Double victory! (P.S. live in Iceland? Can I stay with you? I cook and clean!)
  2. hitchhike . Iceland is a very safe country, and I'm not worried about rides from strangers take. It is a much more interesting way to get around.
  3. No alcohol . Beer is a budget killer!
  4. For cooking . While watching a few local specialties to try Icelandic cuisine plan is known not known for its culinary wonders. I plan to minimize food costs by cooking my own meals.

Beyond these four main points, I'll just constantly looking for new ways to save money without sacrificing great outdoor adventure activities. I do not go not to Iceland go whale watching or hiking a glacier! I am glad really examined how much really cost and how Iceland travelers (especially families) head it can on the cheap.

Outside this mission, I really have no set plans for Iceland. Since I have only 10 days, I decided the ring road only to travel the highway that rings Iceland. I think I'll end up in Reykjavik to get my plans together to make a hitchhiking sign and start west along the coast for seven days before my last two days in Reykjavik to spend and around then fly back home.

it's just a little taste, but right now, 10 days is all I can give the land.

but if it's even half as nice as I imagine I'll be back. It is after all only five hours from New York!
