The Saturday City: The Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre consists of five beautiful hill towns (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso) on the west coast of Italy. They are famous for historical and, well, beautiful. Not only "This place is beautiful" nice, but more like "I want to died and gone to heaven and never leave" beautiful. I visited here on my first tour through Europe and should spend only three days. I spent a week. If it was not for the money (The Cinque Terre is as expensive as it is beautiful), I would have stayed longer. When I came back, I have a chance I missed to hike some of the harder routes for the first time.
The Cinque Terre has amazing trails that give you a chance to explore the cities in full screen, olive groves, vineyards and surrounding area. There are quite a few trails around the simplest of which is the coastal path. You can start the hike either Riomaggiore or Monte.
Riomaggiore, Manarola walking along the section "Lover Lane" called. This is the easiest part of the walk, by train and paved flat and give you a magnificent view of the sea. It will take you right in Manarola.
From Manarola you can follow the coastal path to Corniglia or the tougher paths up and follow through the vineyards and olive groves. I have the harder routes. These paths offer better views and scenery and have fewer tourists in the way.
come to Corniglia, which I thought was the prettiest of cities. It was small, beautiful, relaxed, and the narrow streets were lost in fun. The color of the buildings on you jumped out and the large town square had amazing restaurants.
The path from Corniglia to Vernazza is one of the hardest parts. The coast can be steep at times and quite full. However, you will get a wonderful view of the cities behind and the terraced vineyards. but especially more in Vernazza walk down brings you the best pictures of the city.
was
Vernazza my favorite. While Corniglia was the most beautiful and quiet, Vernazza was the most vivid. It is the only city with a real night life, I liked the beach, and its castle like tower is pretty cool. Of the five cities, I thought it had the best energy.
Vernazza Leaving for the last stop Monte is the biggest challenge. The path is very steep at points, and there is a lot of up and down walking. However, they are rewarded with beautiful vineyards, olive groves, old stone houses and crumbling walls. It is the hardest, but the most beautiful part of the route. If you are lucky, you might even someone selling Limoncello to find on the way.
The route and the day ends in Monte, the largest of the cities. They are a lot of rentals here and while it is not the most attractive city, here the beach is bigger and there are more tourist services around the city. It is the most convenient of all five.
In summer, all cities are packed and the prices skyrocket. I found the best time to visit the end of September or beginning of October, when the crowds are less, but the weather is still warm and swim the water is still beautiful in. A trip to Italy just is not complete without a trip to the Cinque Terre. He lives to all the hype and is one of my favorite places in the country.
