Thoughts on My First Road Trip Across America

Thoughts on My First Road Trip Across America -

Iowa cornfields outside des moines As a child my family went on the obligatory road trips to different countries, but we never went far from the east coast America. The only time that I had been west of the Mississippi, was on a stopover in Los Angeles.

across America driving, so my first real trip to my people would be. I did not know what to expect. I was in areas I walk only preconceptions about-the redneck South had, the boring Midwestern beautiful West and the barren Southwest. But the drive to many of these ideas shaken. I learned a lot about my two months down the road.

I learned , you never realize how great the country is until you go over it. They see their size on the map, but you can not imagine until you jump in your car to drive 700 miles, and are still in the same state. The size of America is truly amazing!

I learned that the American South is not so bad. It has some good cities, good food and good people. I called it the backlog of our nation for a long time, and that was unfair. Sure, there are still aspects of it I do not like, but by the time I left, I knew I would go back.

I learned that Colorado is my favorite state. I loved everything about this state of nature, the cities, the people. Of all the places I have visited, this is the only condition I think would move. It had everything my heart desires (as long as I can walk to warmer weather in the winter!).

I learned that the southwest is not so barren. (There's forests!) If you have never been to Arizona or New Mexico, you are not from the Union to some of the most beautiful states. The Grand Canyon, Sedona, Santa Fe, Carlsbad, the landscape all of it (except Phoenix) is amazing. While I would not want to live there, my visit turned in this area in my favorite part of the country. I can not wait to explore its forests, deserts and canyons again. There is much more there than retirement communities and golf.

I learned that I get over my fears, hiking 50 miles, go on rides, and traveling alone. I learned that I could learn. I survived two months down the road alone. I met people, I navigated cities, and I have friends all over the country

I learned random things like :. New Orleans, Savannah and Charleston are the best cities in the US. Carls Jr. has the best fast food. Waffle House hash browns are a gift from God. You can fake a Tasmanian accent because Americans never travel. Southern sweet tea is not all it's cracked up to be, but southern cuisine. New Orleans has amazing music. International visitors think the US some of the friendliest people in the world, and I would agree. And always read your card, otherwise you might miss your exit and end up in a state!

Most importantly, I learned that, in the famous words of Le Monde, we are all Americans . I have a new appreciation for my compatriots and a new empathy for them. I can with their opinions, but at the end of the day, I know, we are the same, there is no big difference between us she likes all agree or. America is a diverse nation, but the only thing I noticed about this country, despite our sometimes had great political and cultural differences that we are equal. Every day we live the same life, sharing the same hopes, dreams, fears and tensions. We share the same underlying values, thoughts and beliefs. We all want the economy to do well, to have our children a good education, and to lead our politicians.

At the same time, it is easy to notice any differences when you are traveling. There are glaring cultural differences from region to region, state and city to city by the slowness of the South to the fast pace of the east coast, the cowboys of the West, and the small towns of the Corn Belt. This great dichotomy between equality and diversity is really what makes America great, and it's what made a lasting impression on me.
