10 Ways to Stockholm on a budget visiting

10 Ways to Stockholm on a budget visiting -

A lovely view of the streets of Gamla Stan on a sunny day in Stockholm is one of my favorite places in the world: Stockholm (I have tried to live well there last year). I love the historic beauty of the city, the natural beauty of the archipelago, and the beautiful people. Throw in the many parks, delicious cafes and bars, and you have the recipe for one of the greatest destinations in the world.

Over the years I have developed a good network of friends in Stockholm and I have so much I feel like I know it like a local. If Stockholm not of Arctic winter conditions (OK, a slight exaggeration) have suffered, it would be the perfect city in the world.

Many travelers skip the city, because it is expensive. There is no denying that Stockholm is really expensive compared to other cities across Europe. But a visit there does not need to break your budget, and only doing a few simple things, you can dramatically reduce costs, without much effort and make your visit much favorable

Take a tour free walking - Like most major cities in Europe, there is a free guided tour, here running of free Tour Stockholm. The tour takes you around the old town (Gamla Stan) and some context and history of the city. They also offer a tour of the main modern city center. Each tour takes a few hours

Cut your food budget -. While food costs to most major cities in the world are comparable, in Stockholm food is incredibly expensive. I try to avoid as much as possible as a result of dining out. Here are a few ways to cut your food budget:

  • Koch: food in Stockholm 415 SEK cost (63 USD $) per week per person, which is a big value when the average prepared meal is about 100-0 SEK ($ 15-30). It is much less expensive to cook your own food when eating in restaurants. Moreover, most hostels offer free noodles, so, although it can not reduce the healthiest option, even more on your food budget advantage of that advantage in
  • Avoid sit-down restaurants .: If you still want to eat, try to small outstandings liable to you see on the side of the road. You can get everything from hot dogs ($ 3) Thai food ($ 10) Burger ($ 10). It is a much more economical way to eat. In addition, all skip on Drottninggatan (the main shopping street of the city) and in Gamla Stan. Both places are very expensive
  • Try the lunch buffets .: lunch buffet in the local restaurants are also another budget-friendly way to eat, costs around 100 SEK ($ 15). They are a popular option with locals and are everywhere in the city. Ask the staff where you want to stay for the next breakfast. One of my favorite places is Hermans. Your breakfast costs 98 SEK ($ 15). Although vegetarians, the food is always delicious, and you are about the lack of meat does not even matter. It is one of my favorite places in the city
  • Fill your water bottle .: A bottle of water costs about 20 SEC ($ 3). The tap water in the city is safe to drink, so buy a reusable bottle (or bring your own) and only that to fill. Plus, to help you to help the environment! Win win.

advantage of the free parks business
Sunny Stockholm, Sweden in the summer
The Parks in Stockholm are free, and in the winter, there is free ice skating. You can also Gamla Stan and Södermalm hike and just enjoy the beauty of the city. My favorite places are Djurgarden, Langholmen, Gärdet and Rålambshovsparken. They have huge open spaces and are good for a number of outdoor activities or lounging

Three free museums -. Museums in Stockholm are not cheap (costs about $ 15 per visit), but there are a few free hours for free or at least offer. These include the following:

  • Modern Museum
  • The Waldfriedhof
  • National Library of Sweden

Make sure the to check the tourist office to see whether other museums offer free hours or exhibitions. There are many free art exhibitions and events that come to the city, and they will have a list of them all

Manage your alcohol consumption -. Alcohol is not cheap in Sweden. If you want to destroy your budget, drink. If you want to have your money, take a little longer, cut out on alcohol down. Avoid wine (too expensive), skip the clubs (too expensive), and stick to beer, which is the cheapest alcohol you can get. Try to drink during happy hour when beer is as cheap as 35 SEK ($ 5). If you do not want to "get wasted", you should (your only option) to buy your liquor at Systembolaget, the Swedish government liquor store. Prices are cheapest there.

See the archipelago on the cheap
Stockholm's harbor is one of the most beautiful places in Europe
The Swedish archipelago is beautiful. Thousands of islands dot the archipelago, and there are many tours of the city that will take place around during the day (or at sunset). But these trips are expensive. If you cheap to see the archipelago and experience, take the ferry to the outer islands. Tickets are 50-150 SEK ($ 23.08 USD) depending on which island you visit (for comparison: day trips 240 SEK). Use Waxholmsbolaget for affordable tickets. From October to March tickets at half price

Get transport are going -. Stockholm metro tickets are expensive (36 SEK per ticket), but you can create a transport card for 300 SEK ($ 45 to buy that is) valid for seven days (SEK 50 per day) and unlimited use. There is also a 72-hour pass for 230 SEK ($ 36). While the city is incredibly walkable (I rarely, if ever, take the train) if you take plan the subway or buses, you should get a passport. All you have to do, the web is twice a day use the pass to make a better value than individual tickets. And chances are, if you use the train once, you will use it twice

use hotel points -. Got hotel points? Use them! Marriott, Starwood and Hilton Hotels have all cities here in the city that can be booked with points. Free is always better than money

Inter Stay -. Inter might not be the best hostel in town, but it's the cheapest and if you have a tight, cheap hostel this is the place to be. They are the cheapest and most centrally located hostel in the city. Dorms start at 149 SEK ($ 22) per night

a hospitality network use -. Since accommodation in Stockholm is expensive, you should look at CouchSurfing, a website that connects travelers with locals, the one offer to remain open space. You can cut your lodging costs and get the local culture to learn, as there are a lot of hosts here who participate in a very active community CouchSurfing. They organize a lot of meet-ups, and this is a great opportunity to make a few friends.

Visiting Stockholm does not need to completely break your budget. There are many ways to save money in this expensive city. I return here year after year, and while it is never the cheapest destination in the world, I always find ways to make the trip affordable. And with the tips above, you can. Stockholm is one of the best places on earth - Do not let the prices keep you away
