7 Common Travel Myths that are wrong (and why I give Hands-On Help Now)
Years ago, the website of the Earth Porm reposted my article "the Ultimate Guide to travel If you are broke," and in January, social media maven and actors shared George Takei post with its eight million Facebook fans (like a giant Star Trek Geek sci -fi nerd, I jump up and down a little with joy).
when I went through the comments on George Facebook post, I was shocked and saddened by the middle and dismissive comments and by misconceptions about traveling people. Some examples are:
The comments made me realize that despite all the detailed websites and books on how to think trips are affordable and accessible to many people to make the concept more that travel is expensive, insecure, and impossible, unless you are rich.
too many to say: "I can 't It is impossible." And, as we saw with Bob, become cynical about traveling.
But the idea that could not be further from the truth is costly travel. There have never been more opportunities have to do it for less. I know this from countless stories and thank you letters and emails from readers. It is time to put these common beliefs about traveling to rest and show why they are wrong
Myth no. 1 :. Travel is expensive and, unless you have a trust fund, you can not do it
Everything costs some money. No trip is free, but the idea that most people think of travel is the result of ads, commercials and travel magazines to highlight the unusual tours and luxurious accommodations, and subtle marketing use language that says "is a fun holiday an expensive vacation. " after decades of being bombarded by these messages corresponds to our collective consciousness with luxury travel.
started when I first trip in 04, I believed that too. I remember trips to Australia looking and thinking ".! No wonder I do not know, people who are traveling, it is more than $ 3,000 for a two-week trip" When I started in 05 to the world tour my planning, saves it seemed like a daunting task. It took all my savings and a further 18 months to save constant overtime for my trip!
But you do not need a trust fund or a high-paying job!
Michael worked a job paying $ 9 / hour and saved $ 14,000 for his trip. It can also be carried out at minimum wage. It may take longer to save for your trip, and you may have to make sacrifices, but if you want to go - whether two weeks to two years -. You find a way to make it happen
Thanks to a variety of sites, apps and tools, it will never happen is easier to make your budget trip. My entire site is dedicated to the belief in crushing, the travel is only for the rich. Here are some starting points that you can help reduce your costs and traveling on a budget:

- Like the "I change'm too bad" Mindset and Say Yes to travel to travel
and you do not need to save for the entire trip before you leave either. You can work when you are abroad (Tip # to see 8)
Myth no. 2 :. Credit cards are a stupid move financial
When used, credit cards are intelligent financial instruments. You can earn hundreds of thousands of miles per year that allow you to travel for free (and they offer better protection than purchasing your debit card). Just with them you will not send in debt or high interest costs. Just make sure you do not spend more than you have and your bill paying each month.
In addition, increases over time your credit score have multiple cards. One of the biggest factors in your credit score is your credit-to-debt ratio; several cards with increased this ratio. If you only used $ 10,000 in available credit over 10 maps, but use only $ 1.000, your credit score to be better if you had $ 4,000 more than two cards, $ 1,000.
Although for the card application is a temporary dip in cause your credit score, it is corrected within two months. Space out the applications and you will see no lasting negative impact on your credit score. The most important thing you can do for your credit is, your bills to pay on time and avoid to meet every month your credit limit.
I have 18 credit cards (although I only active three use) and a credit score of 797 out of 850.

myth # 3:. CouchSurfing is unsafe - I would never stay in a strange house
people on CouchSurfing (and for that matter, around the world) are kind and helpful. You want to show you which is best for their home to offer. Experience has shown me that you can rely on the kindness of strangers.
Yet there is a general fear of being with strangers, because we perceive the world is unsafe and dangerous to believe. People think "stay with a stranger? No way. This is dangerous." After all has gone down despite the fact crime we perceive strangers to be dangerous. We rely not only the people more.
And fear makes people hospitality sites like Couchsurfing distrust.
However, sites like CouchSurfing, you can see a host reviews, and decide who you stay with and you always have the option of the backup. Single woman? Stay with another woman! To have a family? Stay with the family! You have many options and ways to explore your host.
sites that locals and tourists, as CouchSurfing, EatWith, Blablacar, Meetup, or BeWelcome, are safe and well monitored by the Community Connect. Once people understand how these sites work, will say more: "That sounds like a fun idea!" Instead of "remain a stranger No way?"

Myth # 4: hitchhiking is uncertain.
the idea that hitchhiking always uncertain dates to the 1950s, when the FBI a scare campaign lead people who practice in part (the then very often) to get to stop because civil rights were rallies hitchhiking. The campaign of the FBI firmly embedded in the minds of the people who is hitchhiking dangerous, by claiming that most hitchhikers were murderers. In combination with a general sense the world is uncertain (see above), to be perceived hitchhiking as a dangerous activity (even if it is not the case).
But as Matt and Kristin (and even John Waters) have not shown any ends in a ditch by the side of the road. I have hitchhiked in Europe, the Caribbean and Central America and met wonderful, interesting people in the process.
Hitchhiking is about common sense. You must not in any car that stops. Use your judgment. Do not assume everyone is a psychotic killer

Myth # 5 :. Travel is dangerous for women
Men and women both face risks on the road, but women do but additional hazards and men have to be extra careful to be in certain circumstances. but "if it bleeds, it leads" approach highlights only to report the negative stories and reinforces the perception that the world is so scary that solo female travel is very, very uncertain and murderers lurking around every corner. This is not true at all. They have a higher chance of being hit by a bus, as you do to end up like in the movie Taken
But do not believe me. believe the other women who traveled the world alone. Here is an excerpt from Laura's post on the safety of women:
When I look back on the days when the people have told me! "Do not go there" or "You die could be" it is especially advising people who have never been to these places and never done a research on them. The press is enormously influential. I can not tell you how many times I have read international press coverage that is simply wrong to you. You need to find trusted sources and advice from people who know what they are talking about. I once mentioned to my parents that I had to go to Rwanda plans. My anxious father said to me... "You Will not" He was obviously concerned about Rwanda's turbulent past Had he done his research, he would have known that Rwanda is the safest country in East Africa as soon as he researched it, I never heard from again a word. Visit the crime rate in your garden can be used as objective as bad you are traveling, if not worse
and in these blogs have a look for inspiration and proof women can travel alone .:

Every day, traveling millions of women the world alone. It is safe and feasible, and you are not in a trench
myth 6 at the end :. This advice is only useful if you are young and single
too many people believe travel is something you do only in your individual youth. I understand that when you are older, you can add more luxury and want that family trip requires more planning, but traveling is not only the responsibility of the youth. The tips and advice in the article Earth Porm and on my blog apply to all. Age does not matter. I have families and seniors around the world backpacking seen staying in hostels and driving RVs
You are not limited by age, only mindset

myth # 7. you can not work abroad
There are a variety of opportunities to work abroad. We think of work as a job, interviews, Visa, and requires a résumé. This is not always true. If you want to work, and are flexible about what you are willing to do, you can find employment. There are plenty of legal jobs for travelers around the world. Australia and New Zealand offer working holiday visa, where travelers under 30 years, a year to get work visa. You can teach English around the world, working on a cruise ship or a freelancer visa in Germany get

Together we will create a step-by-step financial program that brings them on the way to travel.
There have any charges or conditions. I will work my email with you to create telephone and Skype a plan and help you stick to it, so that you arrive earlier than you planned and for less money.
