Khao Yai National Park
Khao Yai National Park is located about 2.5 hours north of Bangkok and is one of Thailand's best national parks. Established in 1962, it was Thailand's first national park, and it is now a World Heritage Site.
I had always heard great things about the park, but despite several years living in Thailand, had never managed to get there. When I played tour guide a few weeks ago with a friend from Boston, I have to finally make this as my excuse there.
I can not believe it took so long.
The park is truly amazing-beautiful, empty of tourists, and filled with lush flora and fauna, and even a few wild elephants.
in the guesthouse arrival in the afternoon we were just in time to make a half -day tour. This tour brought to some caves and a natural source. The first cave was home to more than 2,000 bats and used to be a Buddhist monastery before the community helped to build the monks a right temple. However, the monks still come here at night to meditate to. I suspect the darkness and silence is good for meditation.
Our guide seemed to be an expert in everything, we all insects shows, talking about the entire life cycle of bats, and even gave us a ground lesson on the composition of the dirt and like bat guano can be used to make explosives. It was all fascinating. He knew quite a bit and spoke very good English, which is very rare on tours in Thailand. Normally tour guides in Thailand are only initiates, to discuss from place to place on foot, very little, so you take your photos, and then continue. But these leaders knew them all, and was able, history and zoology not only this cave to explain, but the entire region.
The second cave over two million bats presented, and we arrived just in time for their nightly feed them head out to see. Watching it was like watching something on the Discovery Channel a seemingly endless stream of bats flying in the pursuit of their dinner as the sun below the horizon. Our guide, who seemed, our cameras better than any of us to know, was able to catch some of it on the tape for us through the telescope:
There was observed a spectacular scene.
we have in the park for a whole day hiking through the jungle and try the animal ~~ POS = TRUNC spot the next day. Our day began with bird watching, followed by a five-hour walk through the jungle. We saw many birds throughout the day, including the Great Toko, which is a span about two meters wide. Monkeys floated on the side of the road, and gibbons swinging through the trees. As we made our way through the jungle, I realized that we were the only group in this way, so we. Additional personal time with the animals Normally in northern Thailand to see many tour groups, so it was nice to finally get somewhere where we could be alone with nature.
The monsoon season came in about halfway through our hike, pouring on us a sea of water down, as we made our way back to the car. As a souvenir, a leech attached to my hand, though I burned quickly. They do not hurt, but it takes a long time for the wound to heal. I bled for quite a long time. The rain abated, as we made the last couple of waterfalls, including the Leonardo Di Caprio in the movie The Beach jumped.
Well, I normally never use accommodation recommendations for Lonely Planet. But this time, I (as well as everyone else in the guest house). I must say that for once, Lonely Planet did not disappoint. Despite being years in LP, the greenhouse board had not suffered in quality. Usually press in a Lonely Planet book means higher prices and lower quality. However, this place offered cheap accommodation, good food, reasonably priced tours and very experienced guides. If you ever go in Khao Yai, this place comes with my recommendation. I would go back in a second.
Khao Yai National Park is everything people say it is. Although there was one of the biggest and most famous parks in Thailand few tourists there, for a pleasant and peaceful experience. With him half to be only one day from Bangkok, it is a park you really should consider a visit into consideration before heading to the tropical islands that make Thailand so famous.
