Re-start in Chiang Mai: The city that inspired me to travel the world
Okay, I'm excited much , but I have this excited no longer for a long time. When I touched down in Bangkok a few days ago, I looked again to see a place for the first time in the airplane window, a reflection of a wide-eyed and bushy tailed guy. The guy I was. I was at home.
For years I have my backpack over my shoulder to my roots dreamed repeatedly hurl and again travel without a plan. But life always seemed to come in the way and travel was delayed. "Something" always came.
It was just a routine and enter to build a comfort zone. Days passed, and before I knew it, years have passed, and the list of things got discouraging to see more and more.
to talk about after months, here I am, back in South East Asia, actually doing it. It's finally real! I am back in Thailand, the country where it all began to spend longer time to travel around the region. I was more relaxed and rested in the last few days, when I in months.
I am in the country, where on my first visit, I have twice in one day ripped off (back to back, mind you), I ate McDonald's because the street food seemed eerie, and my idea of roughing it was a three star hotel.
and I loved every moment of it! It threw me out of my comfort zone and hooked me on Expedia.
This is the beginning of a five-month trip, and I'm going to enjoy every moment and every opportunity. I begin my new hiking trip in the city of Chiang Mai, the place where I learned the five backpackers know that changed my life. Those who showed me that long term travel on a budget was possible and made me my traveling companions say: ". Scott, I'm going to go home and quit my job to travel the world"
I often wondered what happened to them. How long have they to go? Where did you go? What are you doing right now? I doubt they would recognize me now, and when it is an old image I was not one of us, I would not either
You changed my life -. And put me on the path that me to where I am today.
What trip attracted me was the feeling of the infinite possibilities brings. You can get everything you want, and you never know where the day you really need. How do I look in the next few months, I have the feeling. While I have a general route in mind, there are so many ways, and I could land anywhere. I only know that I will be in new places, seeing new things and meeting new people.
After two months here it's back on the big blue Pacific Ocean and down to South America, where I will explore Patagonia, turn right into Machu Picchu to explore the Amazon, and drunk off slowly Argentine wine slide.
I'm lucky to have a career that me to plop themselves allowed down halfway around the world and spend as much time as I want it. But even if you do not have the same luxury, do not be holding your inner naysayer back. It's never too late to start again and the things you achieve have dreamed.
Even when it finally is always motivated to go to the gym, take dance lessons, or learn archery (something I never "had the time" to do), it's never too late to start. It's never too late to say: ". Sweetheart, let's finally get the children to Europe"
When Dave Matthews said, "the future is no place to put your better days."
And, right now, I am some of the best days I had in a while.
