We did not listen to the Who said traveling has not been possible
Last month I announced I would be with on this site monthly columnist. I have two introduced so far, and now it's time to present our final! On the third Friday of every month, Cameron Wears of Traveling Canucks are tips and advice will give here how better to travel with your children. I know this is a much requested topic for many of you, so I'm excited to have him on our team! His column begins this month.
"Get in now your travel, as you will not be able to do it, if you have children."
I heard this statement many times, while my wife and I were in the world backpack. And, unfortunately, the more I heard these words, the more I began to believe it.
Travel has always played an important role in our lives, so the thought of giving it up to raise a family seemed like a crappy thing for us. But with children was also a big part of the "plan" we have when we got married in Mexico in January 08, so we resigned ourselves to the idea that family and travel do not mix. born
After our first boy was in 2011, we applied for his passport and had a trip to California (we live in Vancouver, British Columbia). We wanted to prove that the idea that we had internalized was wrong, and that our days of travel would not have to stop. We opted for a destination close to home, closed their eyes, and hoped for the best. With really a child could not be the end, could it? We do not think so and refused to listen to those around us.
And we are glad that we did not. We realized on this trip that everyone was wrong.
I'd be lying if I with a baby, the ease of travel. It is not. But it was not as bad as we thought it would be.
Sure to bring a stroller and a car seat is a pain in the ass, but every journey that will take us together easier and simpler. Flights are not so bad, provided you are prepared and to share accommodation, is actually quite nice. Surprisingly, children are very well to new environments for adaptation (often better than adults)
Now, when we return from a trip every time I am this introductory statement reminded .: "Get your trips in now because you And every time I think capable of not only once you have children. "
It is true, you will not be able, the way you have in front of children to travel, but that does not mean you are traveling for family exchange have, and vice versa. They can do both, but you need to change your expectations and accept that your travel will be different.
We often hear say newbie parents, "We just wait until our children are older before we go back." There is absolutely nothing wrong with this plan ... unless of course, you want to continue actually travel. There is always an excuse Life shelved, children or no children, but rarely regret people their comfort zone urge to pursue their passions and achieve their goals.
In general, there seems to be a lot of fear and confusion when it comes to traveling with babies and young children. It's easy to read blogs about family travelers and think, "That would be great, but ..." You can always find a reason why their situation may not apply to you would. And if no one "gets it" around you, or did it, it's easy to think maybe you should not.
But we are here to change that. In our monthly column will be, we share tips and tricks we have learned firsthand, while traveling with our toddler and child -. Practical travel tips, advice for when situations go wrong stories from our trip and much more
If you travel a specific question about baby / family, please in the comments below to divide. I will regularly checked in and would like to know what you are most interesting.
traveling with our little boy has forced us to slow down and appreciate each travel experience that we have in common. to see the world through their prying eyes, has given us some of the most rewarding moments we've ever had, and we want to use our eight years of travel experience to new families to help street beat!
