38 reasons why I'm excited to visit Japan
Next week I'll to Japan. It is my first real visit there. I say "real visit" because in 04, on the way home from Thailand, my friend and I stopped in Tokyo for a long layover. After arriving at 6:00, we left the airport, saw the Imperial Palace, Tokyo recognized in January much colder than Thailand in January, and camped at a Starbucks until the sushi restaurants open for lunch. After a luxurious sushi meal to eat, we went back to the airport.
This is my only time in Japan was. I always wanted to go, and fortunately, now I am. Next week I'll be heading for a two-week G Adventures tour around Japan, and then I will a little more time in the country, the cities, all not spend visit included on the tour.
Now, I'm a big Japanophile. Though he'd never been actually been there, I'm obsessed with Japan - the food, culture, temple, technology, architecture. I love them all. Whenever I get a house, the Japanese art will play a predominant role. Out of all the trips I have taken in recent years, I am most looking forward to this one. I am giddy with excitement. Why? Let me count the ways:
1. Sushi - I love sushi so much, I would eat it for breakfast. Anyone who knows me knows about my sushi addiction. I suspect that breakfast Sushi is some time to pass.
2. Tokyo's Ginza district -. I am looking forward to the famous shopping / nightlife of Ginza and the crazy crowds that go with it
3. Mt. Fuji - I always wanted to climb with this mountain and see the sunrise. Now I get!
4. High-speed trains - Let's see if they really are faster than a bullet! And if not, their supposed comfort and luxury is just as good.
5. Kyoto - the city full of Zen gardens and temples looks to be one of the finest in Japan. Although I get to see not all 2,000 this visit, I will try my best.
6. Hiroshima - The Atomic Bomb Monument looms large here, and as a history buff, I could not this city see
7. Tokyo fish market - The vast majority of sushi in the world comes through this market. As sushi lovers, I can not expect one of the world's busiest and biggest fish markets to see, even if it means waking up at 4 o'clock in the morning.
8. Tokyo subway - people are always talking about the survival of the London Underground, but the Tokyo subway is the actual maze. Bring it on!
9. Osaka - travelers mention this city a lot, and I want to find out why
10 !. Sushi - Did I mention I like Sushi
11 ?. Zen Buddhism - As I College, I have to Buddhism. I studied Tibetan Buddhism, but I am looking forward to learning more about the Zen style.
12. The Emperor's Palace - I've only seen the outside of it the last time. Time to see more.
13 Hokkaido - just a name I keep hearing. It is supposed to be one of the most beautiful places in Japan, and I like beautiful things.
14. Sake - I love sake and really want to learn about the different varieties and purities. I plan to take a class. Is half a class similar to a wine class here in the States?
15 Samurai - Because swords and noble warriors are cool. may not be more samurai, but I bet there is a museum for them somewhere.
16. Karaoke - Nothing says I turn Japanese over blaring some Lady Gaga with drunken Japanese businessmen from
17 !. Pod hotels - sleeping in a pod big hole? Sounds interesting.
18. Geisha bars - Hey, why not? When in Rome, right?
19. Sumo Wrestling - What could be more entertaining two huge guys than just try to push each other out of a circle
20 ?. Castles - There are many castles in Japan. as many European ones after I, I would like to see another part of the world does.
21 Technology - We are pleased to have a quick look to the future to get
22 .. Puppy Opinions - Because the space is so tight only few people have dogs at home. So they go in cafes where they can play with puppies. I have to see that!
23 Cherry - I'll be the tail end of the Cherry Blossom Festival to control, and there is nothing I am more excited about
24 .. Sushi - OK, the last item was a lie , I am very excited about the sushi.
25 Nagasaki - Another place I've heard
26 !. Masses - I have seen masses in Asia, but Japan, it takes on a whole new level
27 .. Lake Ashi - Hot Springs? Scenic view of Mount Fuji? Sold!
28. Hiking - Japan is to have beautiful pine forests with scenic hiking trails. I hope that the rumor is not a lie, because I love a good hike.
29 Politeness - The Japanese are uber-polite, respectful, and do not take what is not theirs. I'm going to test this theory by leaving a wallet on the train and see if it is returned to me.
30 Tai Chi - I have to do this at school, and practice early in a park awakening is on my list
31 .. Hello Kitty - I'm kinda behind the times, so I have no idea if this is still one thing, but I hope it is. If not, I'm sure some other interesting thing, that it has replaced.
32. Japanese Fashion - The Japanese seem to dig everything retro and 80s and then combine it with a mixture of hipsterism. Japanese Fashion confused the hell out of me, but I can not do things like this waiting to see:
33. Kabuki theater - Traditional Japanese theater sounds like a great cultural activity
34 .. Ramen- I want to 100 yen ramen shop with the face over a hot, steaming bowl of delicious ramen noodles
to sit in some back alley, 35 .. place watermelon - I'm sure it tastes like normal watermelon, , but it's square . I have a piece for the kitsch factor.
36. Anime - I do not have all the anime / manga comic culture. Maybe are gone over me out help why it is so great.
37. Japanese toilets - A toilet that warms my butt, cleans itself, sprayed water and playing music? Going to the bathroom never sounded so fun.
38. Sushi - See a pattern here? I bet you can imagine what food I will in the next few weeks, most eat.
There are a lot I seek to do me in Japan, and with only about 2.5 weeks there when I hope to tick, from all 38 things on this list, I'll be pretty busy. But since this is likely to be my only trip to Japan for a while, I'm OK with that. It is a good way busy. Now it's Sunday yet? Now I want to fly.
