How much a holiday in Thailand cost
Thailand can be expensive or cheap, to visit the country as you want it. This is a country where you stay in $ 3 USD or $ 1000 USD room resorts. Street food for pennies or gourmet dinner for hundreds. Thailand really runs the gamut.
When my friends came to visit last December, they budgeted $ 1.700 USD three-week for their trip. "No problem," I said, "this is more than enough for Thailand. This land is cheap." But what I realized as I traveled with people on a limited time frame, that there are large differences in budgeting for a backpacking trip compared to budgeting for a holiday.
It requires a completely different mindset. It is much easier to stay on a low budget, when your costs over a few months forward, instead of a few weeks. On a holiday, you tend so much to see, trying to run, so as you can what your costs may drive a lot.
Thailand is to live and travel for a cheap country. I spend very little money here. But that changed when my friends came, and why the changed is important for anyone planning to come to Thailand. While my friends were here, I spent a lot of money. For 24 days we traveled, I spent $ 1,596.27 USD or $ 66.51 per day. Here is the division (all prices are in in Thai Baht):
- property (cheap guesthouses, beautiful beach bungalows, luxury jungle lodges) - 13565
- flights in Thailand - 40
- transport (public buses, trains, taxis) - 1470
- ferry to and from the islands - 1,875
- Diving in Ko Tao - 800
- Hiking in Khao Sok - 10
- film and popcorn (Sherlock Holmes 2 not see it!) - 320
- Misc. (Bug spray, toothbrush, etc.) - 363
- drinks (! It was the holidays) - 10115
- Jim Thompson House (Museum in Bangkok) - 100
- medicine (I mean eardrum Diving popped!) - 1,80
- Essen (street food, Seafood dinner, amazing international cuisine in Bangkok) - 11,000
- Web stuff for work - 80
- water - 100
Total output: 47,888 baht or $ 1,596.27 USD
Note: $ USD 1 = 30 baht
For Thailand, which is a lot of money. I tell people that in Thailand Backpacking costs USD $ 30-35 per day, depending on how much alcohol you consume and how many days you spend on the islands, where the cost is higher. Most of the time I spend less. I had just spent a week in the northern city of Chiang Mai and only about $ USD per day 25th This included accommodation (own room with bathroom), local food, Starbucks, the occasional western meal and a few drinks.
So why did I spend double?
although my intention "Thailand on a budget," had to be done, as I traveled with my friends, I realized something that I had forgotten. When the period of limited and this one of two large travel is all year round, you do not want to scrape every penny. Holidays need not cost a fortune, but if you do all the time are on the road to stay in the cheapest place to make your money last is less of an issue. You want nice things.
You travel faster. Take aircraft, not 12-hour trains. They cram more activities into the day. They pampered more. Eat nicer meals.
And my friends definitely all wanted above.
How much do you need?
This is not what I say do not a holiday in Thailand can not be made cheaper. It can. I think a budget of approximately $ 50 USD per day for a short break to Thailand would be perfect. You do not need to spend as much as I did. I spent a lot of money going out, use the Internet for work and to see a doctor. If I cut those costs, my average is lowered to 1,421.16 baht or USD $ 47.31 per day. This is more expensive than a backpacker's budget but really good for a trip to Thailand.
shopping throw in some extra cash, and a maximum of $ 55 USD per day would you give a very, very nice budget holiday in Thailand. For this price you would get:
- flights so you do not have to spend time on long bus rides
- meals, local restaurants and cheap street food, and delicious seafood dinner and a few cast
- "splurge" delicious international cuisine in Bangkok budget inns with a few nights in
- some tours and activities
- a few drinks
- a little more room in case
pretty much the essence of each fun, relaxing holiday.
While all saving tips can be applied mentioned on my website on any kind of trip (to save money is universal), how fast you change travel on a vacation, how you spend money. We could use a lot saved if we had a flight skipped and taken the train, but my friends do not have the time to spend 12 hours a train. We flew, which is expensive in high season.
This experience reminds me that the travel speeds requires that we. In our efforts to be more vigilant in order to save money In the rush to see everything, you can spend a lot of money before you realize it even. I admit that the budget traveler I usually am the door went on this trip. I would normally never fly in Thailand, drive the expensive resorts, and not so much eating international food, as I did with my friends.
A three-week vacation in Thailand may not be as cheap as a three-month hiking trip, but it can still be inexpensive, as long as you see where your money is going and not to forget, looking to look for a budget to see everything.
