How do I find the money
Traveling I have a lot of questions to ask to get me where I might find the money to do all these trips. Am I rich? Travel I work for? Am I a male gigolo? Sell drugs to little kids? Unfortunately, it is not one of them. As I said in a previous post, is desired, what motivates and keeps me going. I want to travel, so I do. But there is always the practical matter of money. No matter how cheap you can go, you need some money.
So how do you afford it, I travel? I work a lot. I rescue. I am frugal. Many people have this misconception that expensive trips is that whenever and wherever you are, you will spend a lot of money. In some regions such as Europe, that may be true. In some cases people, which is always true. But for most of us is not true. Travel can be inexpensive and cheap does not mean bad.
I tell my former colleagues all the time that I travel, just cheap and images of terrible service and seedy hotels pop to mind. Backpacking is not for them, and they want their comfort. I also want my consolation. I eat and do nice things while I'm gone. It's not all 12 people dorms and instant noodles meals. So maybe efficient is to use a better word. I do not travel cheaply. I travel frugally.
When I'm home, I work, I save. I do not go every night and am careful about how I spend my money. I make my money traveling priority. This is the most important part of the puzzle. Do not waste your money. If you are getting to spend on something else, trips always seem out of your reach. you have to travel to make a priority. Once it is important to begin to find ways to save. Cut the Starbucks and the fancy lunch.
Before I went away in 06, I saved for over a year. I acted like a beggar, so I could make sure I had enough money to travel. When I was on the street and ran out of money, I taught English in Bangkok.
Once you do that, you must make sure that you spend your money wisely. People, especially Americans, have the image of travel and hotels, the fancy things and shopping and luxury. All they see is dollar signs, but you can not easily spend your life savings a comfortable holiday. A good alternative to hotels and local inns and B & Bs. They offer comfort, breakfast and laundry, but with a local feel and a lighter impact on the wallet. The owners are not large corporations, but locals who are excited with you, to share their part of the world. Moreover, hostels, home swaps and CouchSurfing are all good ways to keep cheap travel.
fly could be more expensive than it was in the past, but there are certainly good deals and this air tickets do not have to cost a fortune. I seem to always find to manage prices that do not kill my wallet and that's because I know I find look hard and just do not jump on the first flight with Expedia! Find an alternative to flying if you can. can take trains and buses longer but are much cheaper. Most people do not take a trip because airfare scare them but if you do your homework, you'll find a discount deal.
findstep out of your guide and this tiny little local restaurants with good food and tiny price tags. Eat where the locals eat not, where excursions and says. The locals are not a fortune to live in their neighborhood to spend, and you should not either. You travel, not to see new places, new hotels. So to see the place, and you are that life is available on site and travel differently save you money and give you a richer travel experience.
This site is dedicated to keep you motivated, tell stories, and shows you how to travel frugally. You do not need much money you just need to think about Travel- different. Forget packaged tours and expensive hotels and overpriced restaurants and souvenirs. You can still have a luxury vacation without luxury price. You just have to think differently and to do a little work to get the deals. Booking this package on Orbitz is not going to save you money!
And that is how I will find the money to travel and how you can too.
