Paris: The City of Love
Paris. Poets, artists, dramatists, writers, journalists, politicians and more have all written about. All came to Paris and went away in love.
It's hard not to fall in love with Paris. It is a magical place, and I can see why so many flock here. Paris exudes culture, elegance and style. And, like millions before me, I also fell in love with the city.
I remember the exact moment. It was midnight, and I had been only two hours in Paris. I was meeting friends for a night on the town, and I had not seen much of the city, because I was late. But the second I got out of the subway, staring at the Arc de Triomphe and marveled at the Champs-Elysees, I fell in love. Paris was-the highlight of my time in Europe.
But with only two days in Paris, I only had time to see the great sights and walk around. Two days makes this city justice.
One of the first things noticed about Paris I was, how spacious it is. Paris is filled with wide streets, many small places and spaces and large parks. In European cities, especially those as old as Paris, you rarely find such openness. It is usually only in the newly built areas. Old buildings were usually built close together, and every trip to London, Barcelona, Rome or Prague you wonder how people move about. But Paris is different. There are a lot of open space here. The space makes the city feel much less busy and more relaxed. You can walk, you can move, you can dodge the car. It's refreshing.
With my limited time here, I laid on the major sites. I went to the Louvre down and marveled at its size, wondered if Dan Brown would use again in his books. I have not, though-the Louvre deserves more time than I can give it on this trip. I stared at the Arc de Triomphe and strolled down the Champs-Elysées. The Champs-Élysées is always busy and always expensive. With so many tourists and expensive shops, but it is not surprising. I spent my first night-club hopping. My Parisian friends showed me the nightlife, and 08:00 does not end there. Party hard Parisians.
The highlights of the trip was on my second day. I spent six hours to wander the streets of Paris to allow more love and more. The city is beautiful. Silly beautiful. All of it. Nothing else can be said, and I will each photo can tell a thousand words.
I enjoyed the Latin Quarter. The historic area is filled with tiny, winding streets that turn into strange angles to open tree in small cafe places. Despite the Notre Dame to be so close, there was about a few tourists. The streets were much quieter, and it seemed like eating a nice area and to relax. I was glad to be lost in him to go for some time.
Another great place was the Jardin du Luxembourg. This huge garden behind the Palais du Luxembourg is a local favorite on a warm summer day. Tree-lined paths meandering across the area to play parks to picnic or nap in, and tennis courts port. There are driving a large central fountain and a small space craft. The park is filled with people relaxing and eating. One thing that was surprised me of the gardens, the large amount of chairs. In fact, had chairs most parks in Paris. Chairs that were not bound, because no one needs them. They are simply there. I was surprised because in most other places I've been, people take the chairs and slowly they would disappear, too expensive to replace
And how could I forget the two biggest attractions. The Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.
, the Eiffel Tower was not as impressive the first time I saw it. It was raining, and the tower appeared in the gray clouds to mix the sky. Yes, it was cool, but it was not stunning. Then I saw it a second time. On a clear blue day, put the tower in the sky to reach high above the surrounding buildings. Walking towards it, I got more excited, and the second time that I saw it on the Seine towering, I was impressed. Really impressed. But I was not impressed to come up with the two-hour waiting period on the top and skipped that. But what a sight! The Eiffel Tower, or the "metal asparagus" as Parisians used to call it, is fascinating. It is the symbol of the city of love, apparently due to the surrounding grass is another stroking by the large amount of couples.
Notre Dame was cleaner than I thought it would be His. I expected a grim structure still dark and mystical to give the gothic architecture a feeling. Unfortunately, it seems, the building has been cleaned in recent years. I think it takes away from the story and foreshadowing the structure. C'est la vie, right? The interior was fairly standard, and the front reminds me of the Duomo's in Italy. The real beauty of Notre Dame is basing its oval back. This part is stunning and the Gothic art here is made very complicated and well. The downside to Notre Dame is the sea of tourists, pushing the every day this place. They swarm like flies to honey, and I decided to leave quickly. It was nice, but not worth the trouble. Instead, I was amazed it from afar-away from the crowds.
Paris was amazing. I loved them all and be as fast as I can come back. It is everything I thought it would be and more. My next post will give tips for traveling around the city and provide more practical advice. But this is my Paris love story. So many of us have one.
