Saturday Location: Vienna

Saturday Location: Vienna -

There has to really see me thrice Vienna. When I went for the first time in 06, I was visiting friends and we did not do in a park except laze much of something and go to a concert. The second time was to see a girl, I was out, and spent my time with her, not Vienna. This time I was determined to see, in fact, the city and its historical sites.

And so this visit was like Vienna visit for the first time. During my previous visits me a glimpse into the day-to-day life in Vienna was (which is not bad), I never went out of these visits off really feel like I knew anything about the city. I could you not tell about its history everything to see, or what others do, than what I knew before, and I had no idea of the city layout.

This visit changed everything. This time I wandered around the historic core of Vienna. I visited various attractions. I paid to learn attention to the subway, where all the stops were. In fact, I discovered the city for the first time.

I remember when I went to Vienna for the first time. I was told that because I love Prague, I would fall in love with Vienna. But when I got there, I remember being incredibly disappointed. The town was nothing like Prague. It was not so much fun, it's not been so nice, and it was not as charming. It was not a bad city. It simply does not blow me away.

But after this visit, I see Vienna in a bit of a new light. WienTourismus connected me with one of their local tour guides who took me one afternoon on a hike. I think it is this migration was that change my mind Vienna helped.

Walking tours are a funny thing. Its content is always dependent on the personality of the Guide. Guides tell stories and relating features to indicate their interests. And so to think that you will learn one thing and something to learn at the end quite different. Mein Führer liked cafes, art and design, and so my "historic" Tour bent less on history and more on art. I never knew Vienna was a major center of design, fashion and modern art.

One thing that I was fascinated by all cafes. The actual first coffeehouse in Austria opened in Vienna in 1683 was left after the coffee from the Ottoman Turkish army behind him. A Polish officer named Jerzy Franciszek Kulczycki opened the first coffee with the coffee beans he thought of the Turk, and he popularized the domestic sugar and milk for coffee being added to make it more palatable to European tastes. And to date, there appears to be more Cafes in Vienna, as in Seattle.

While I Wishing impressed with the City Café and design scene, the Viennese art museums left left. in many of the city's museums have taken, I was left very disappointed. Do not get me wrong: the museums are actually really good - if you like modern art. But not me. I lean more towards the 17th century Dutch landscapes and Impressionism. I left the modern art does not want to involve as many blades glued to the wall, so I could enjoy it more.

(In all fairness, the Leopold Museum has however have some wonderful paintings and portraits.) Despite the cold and rain during my visit, I spent my days meandering around Vienna to marvel at the architecture, never getting lost ending twists and turns in his sea, and sneak in coffee shops for warm tea. I visited Sigmund Freud at home and learned his daughter was also a psychiatrist and that he analyzed, when she was a child.

I strolled along the river, enjoyed Wiener impressive Gothic church and ate my way through the town's main market. Twice. I visited the ancient royal chambers and finally met a large part of the history of the city.

I'm glad I finally really experience and explore Vienna. But while I love Vienna more than my first visit, I'm still not in love. I do not think that I will ever be. Sure, Vienna has its charms, and I can see why some people might love it. But I'm not one of these people. It is not light a fire under me. It does grab my soul, do like other cities.

Would I come back? Yes, maybe someday. It is not a bad place. But back real compelling reason without, I doubt my next visit in the near future will be. Vienna did not wow me and it does not drag me back. There are some places in the world that are just nice . Not bad, but not great.

And that's all for me Vienna. It's just nice.
