The Saturday City: Florence

The Saturday City: Florence -

a view of florence of the duomo I have twice been to Florence. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. My first trip was in 06 and I was blown away by the small streets, the beautiful buildings, the food, and, of course, the Gelato. I returned this year and found Florence just as beautiful. I wandered around parts that I missed the first time, wondering seriously whether or not Florence might just be the most beautiful city on earth. For me Florence is to step down as in time. I feel like am in the 1500s, every time I walk through the streets. I'll be happy I will encounter in Da Vinci, as I turn the corner. Moreover, if you love art, what I do here is the set of galleries will keep you busy for weeks, though the biggest draws David and the Uffizi Gallery.

One of my favorite aspects of Florence is the food. While in Florence, I got on a market tour to go and learn about the food. One of my Twitter followers, Judy, a market operates tour in Florence and invited me on their tour along. As foodies, I could not resist. Walking around the markets and learning about local vegetables, meat and wine gave me an even greater appreciation for Florence. I again and this area of Italy was foodie but actually the details and the history of food to learn was amazing. If you are in Florence, I would recommend her market tour.

I also love all the good gelato in Florence. I have snack three or four times per day on ice. My favorite gelato place is near the cathedral. It il grandica gelatrio called. Try the apple gelato. It is delicious. Yet there is more to Florence than just food (though that can be a lot of Florence). After you filled your stomach capacity, here are to do some other things:

the david

  • The David : The David is one of the most impressive sculptures in the world. It is much larger and more detailed than you think it would. There are not many must-sees in the world, but that's. I saw it twice. It is in the Galleria Academia Dell, where to see many other sculptures by Michelangelo
  • Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio .: This is you Florence's most famous square in the heart of the historic center with an open -Air-sculpture exhibition. It's right near the Uffizi Gallery
  • Il Duomo .: One of Florence's most popular site of the Dom (cathedral). This huge Gothic Cathedral was in 1296. It began, is one of the most popular churches in Italy. The interior is solid and very ornate. However, the real highlight on the roof walk up (463 steps to the top). From the top, you get the view of Florence and the legendary red roofs that cover the building
  • The Baptistery .: The Baptistery of St. John the Baptist from Florence's oldest buildings. It is a real treat for architecture lovers and those who like religious history
  • Ponte Vecchio .: The Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), in 1345 built, Florence is the first bridge over the river Arno and is the only of Florence medieval days surviving bridge. The Ponte Vecchio is still lined with shops, gold and silver jewelery
  • Santacroce .: Santa Croce is the largest Franciscan church in Italy and holds the tombs of Michelangelo and Dante. It is an interesting thing to see if you saw anything
  • Galleria de Uffizi .: The Uffizi holds the most important collection of Renaissance art in the world. The most famous painting is here the Birth of Venus, attracting the largest amount. Most of the art here is the early Renaissance religious art, but towards the end of the gallery there are some portraits and Dutch work. Buy your tickets ahead of time to avoid long queues
  • Visit the Piazzale Michelangelo .: Head to Piazzale Michelangelo for a great view of the city. It's a good hike up a hill, but the view is absolutely stunning and you do not need to pay for it, as you do, by climbing the Dom
  • Boboli Gardens and Palazzo Pitti .: over the Ponte Vecchio is the Giardino di Boboli, a huge park on a hill in the middle of Florence behind the Pitti Palace. Here you will find beautiful gardens and fountains and a great view of Florence. If you are looking to avoid the lines at the Doumo, this is a good alternative. There is also Palazzo Pitti, Florence's largest Palazzo, and once belonged to the Medici family of.

Florence is one of the most popular destinations in Italy. The name itself sold. Most people have no idea what to do in Florence, but when they tell you about Italy, they always say about Florence. Florence brings art, food and wine to care. And I can tell you that it is a city worth to spend a Saturday. In fact, it is a city worth a few Saturdays. Even if people do not love Florence as much as I do, no one goes away disappointed.
