This is the best Thai food outside of Thailand -

Thai lady serving thai food in a market in Berlin I have left a piece of my heart in many places around the world: New York, Paris, Stockholm, and Hong Kong to name a few. But no place has a bigger piece than Thailand. It was my home for a long time (and in many ways still is). No amount of time is long enough, and a lot of time has to be long gone. Whenever I miss it, I go to a Thai restaurant, the staff speak shock by Thai, enjoy a quick conversation with them, and eat my weight in food.

But I always leave disappointed.

Even the best dishes on the authentic restaurants are never as good as in Thailand. The food only temporarily fills a hole in my heart. I'm going away but satiated never satisfied. It only makes me miss Thailand more.

But then I came to Berlin, and changed my world.

A few months ago, my friend Jodi found delicious soup in a Thai market weekend in Berlin and proclaimed it the best she had had outside of Thailand. I stared at the photo of her red pork noodle soup. I was shocked. Despite my years of searching, I've never found outside Thailand.

Thus, while in Berlin two weeks ago, I found myself in this market for lunch. I was like a moth to the flame, came out my fire in the form of soup. When I cook the park and saw colorful umbrellas from the floor with the smell of food approached outgoing among them shooting, my foot in a Sprint become. My expectations were high - guarantees the online reviews of this market for its authenticity, and the images taken, as its the real thing. But I really found Thai street food in a park in Berlin?

I wandered to and fro the market, spotting vendors crouched down on mats, cooking on camp stoves, crushing chilies and Thai to each other crying. It felt safe, like the real thing, but what about the taste? Would it really be? I discovered a soup Dame and walking, I saw it in all its glory:

There was: Kuay Tiew moo dang . Red pork noodle soup.

swelled my heart to joy. Because, as the broth exposes taste gather for hours, you can not find this soup outside Thailand - food safety laws in Western countries do not allow. But there it was. Here in this park, saw the German officials in the other direction than women Chillies crushed to s om tam without wearing any gloves, vendors poured authentic Thai iced tea, pad kra pao gai make (spicy chicken and basil) was in Thailand (chopped and quickly fried), prepared as and soup was the way it should be cooked. There was no refrigeration, no sink to clean the utensils.

I ordered the soup, sat on the grass to eat, and was transported home. The sweet and spicy flavor of the broth, the red pork, the texture of the noodles, and the crunch of the crust were all as perfect as they could be.

When I was done, everything popped into my mind was "more."

I roamed the market, in between the rows and weaving to party and eat like a king. I dipped in spicy (even so cute) som tam , that my mouth made burn, ate sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves (my fingers licked clean) and made several trips to the woman selling Thai iced tea. "Back again?" You would ask.

"Yes!" I said with a smile when I drank half the cup on a train. I closed my eyes, I remembered all the hot Bangkok day this beverage chilled me down to

Everything returned on the market home -. Out of the way the food was cooked, to little bags takeout orders were put on the style of the spoon in, and even the small steps, so popular throughout Southeast Asia that you sit on while you eat.

This place is as close to Thailand as you can get to actually go without.

The next day I went back with a group of friends who ordered a number of dishes and eat family style. It was too good not to go back. If the market was open every day, I would there, are buried my face in some Thai dish, but unfortunately it is only open on weekends.

Berlin is much for them: cool hipster, food, music and art. And now it has something nowhere else has outside Thailand - authentic Thai cuisine. This is the best Thai food I've found outside of Thailand. Do not miss this if you are in Berlin and love Thai food. Berlin is now the hub of my future travels through Europe, so I on the Thai food Canyon I can only dream.

Until next summer I will have to wait with anticipation ... and perhaps book impulsive trip for this winter to Thailand!

Directions
Take the subway to Fehrbellinerplatz and it is in the park outside the station. The market is on Saturday and Sunday during the summer, when there was no rain is. It starts at 12:00 and ends at 20.00, with the peak period 1-5 pm There are more people and vendors to be on Sunday.
