All travelers are equal

All travelers are equal -

Travelers having fun in australia I was making looking over my interview with Rolf Potts and thinking about how he talks about the false distinction travelers among themselves. How do we prove compete, who is better traveler or, as we are not like "tourists." In what only a make believe competition, you will see many travelers on the road, try their status and superiority by talking about how much longer to prove they have been on the road, where they were, or by the number local buses they emphasized met. But let me tell you a travel secret -. all travelers are the same

While I prefer to take advice from someone who is traveling on someone for 10 years, who yesterday left the older travelers (and Rolf would probably agree) is not "better" a traveler than the younger travelers. They are no better traveler simply because:

"You have more than two years on the road"

Really? Impressive! This is really impressive, but do you want a cookie for? I answer this question rarely in hostels because few people say they can when I have been on the road longer and I hate that, "Wow! This is great!" Response. But Uncornered market are the king and queen of long-term journey and sat down in the shade. The same applies to Rolf Potts. So do a million other people I met on the street. We are all beginners at one point, and there is always someone who as us any longer.

Travelers from around the world "You've been through X countries."
Travel not about quantity, it's about quality. In my three years to wander the world, I have only about twenty-five or so countries. There are many people who have been to a lot more in a lot shorter period of a time. But the journey is slow a much better way about the places to visit, find out. I have lived in three countries, since I have been gone. I have spent considerable time in England and Australia. Anyone can visit a lot of countries, but not everyone can actually see many countries

"You do not have to go there -.. It's too touristy"
There is a reason why people to Bali, Paris, hike on the Inca Trail, or head to Las Vegas - these places fun. You can go to visit commercial, too expensive and full of "tourist", but they are still interesting places. The number of small villages you have under your belt, is not proportional to the size of a traveler you are. I think people should as often as possible to rise the trail. Explore the unexplored. Stroll in local neighborhoods to see the rhythm of local life. Find a map, pick a random location and to go there. Some of my best travel memories are when I order was random cities. But I also have great memories of places like the Gold Coast, Amsterdam, Khao San Road, and Barcelona. A good traveler sees a mixture of both and understand that neither is perfect.

"You just do what the locals do."
If you really want to live like a local, an apartment and get a job buy. The world may be filled, but the more you travel, the more you realize that people are essentially the same with different cultures and foods. It does not matter whether you live in Egypt, Mongolia, America or France, everyone gets up, goes to work, want to be happy, life, and hopes that their children have a better life. You can look at all the local restaurants you want to eat and take as many local buses as you can, but that does not mean that you know the local way of life. If you really want, how the locals live and get to know the culture, not spend three days in one place - for three months. maybe an be then locally.

Travelers having fun in italy "You have not do tours."
people who say forget that this is often the case that the boat trip it has in Phuket or that trip to Fraser Iceland in Australia was also a tour. Not all tours are large double-decker buses with sandal carry tourists filled. They may be too little for backpacking. Most tours are not bad by nature. I have taken quite a lot and enjoy it. It all depends on the tour and the company you go with. Talking trash about tour group travelers will not make you better than them, it just makes you an ass.

Travel is a very personal experience. Everybody takes their own path in the world. No two trips are the same and can, therefore, no two trips are compared. Travel is on your mind to open new experiences and people. The competitive mentality can conclude simply that. If you have a "real" travelers are, you know that all travelers are the same and these false mentalities do not matter. Remember that there will always be somebody who has been in more places, seen more things, and spent more time on the road than you.
