The flying tomatoes La Tomatina
Around the world, large festivals attract tens of thousands of people because everyone likes a good party. More importantly, everyone likes a party to fight with a good meal, so to Bunol, Spain on the last Wednesday of August each rises. around 30,000 people come every year to the city in order to La Tomatina, a big, crazy to take, and very chaotic hour tomato fight that all of its participants and the city can be covered in a thick layer of tomatoes.
was La Tomatina as a local food fight among friends in 1945 she enjoyed it so much that they repeated it next year and the year after. The holiday was banned in 1955, but after Franco's death in the 1970s, the holiday turned again. Since the 190s, the festival has grown each year as more and more people come to participate in the world's biggest food fight, and every year the city council looks happy the tomatoes that are thrown at the event.
From early in the morning, Crowd people wearing the clothes never trains from Valencia to Bunol heading be worn. You get there and join the other masses towards the center to get something to stop eating and a lot of drinks on the way. After all, everyone reach the city center and easy to listen to. There is nowhere else to go. The audience is simply too thick. During the run up to the 11:00 kick-off, many participants climb the greased pole to get a ham. If the ham is captured, the party begins, although I do not want anyone got the ham see. They seem independent to begin at the 11th While waiting for the decisive moment, people drink, pour water on each other, and break into the occasional t-shirt fight.
Then the gun goes off, the struggle, and the tomato starts pouring from truck. But only video will be evidence of the craze. So while I fought, took my friends at Travel Yourself my camera so I could bring you:
There is nothing I can say about the festival that the video doesn 't show better.
the fight lasts for an hour, after which the city ankle-deep in a river of tomato juice. The party goes on for a few hours in many of the places around the city before most crowds will return to Valencia to take a shower, Siesta, and relax.
La Tomatina certainly was the most interesting food fight I've ever been. It's quite dirty, and if you do not like about a mess or crowds, you would not. I had a great, energetic time, and this week I was there connected me with some of the most important people in my life. So for those looking to spend a few hours to throw each other food, dancing in the streets, and sangria to drink at 10am, well, you better be at La Tomatina next year.
