The Saturday City: Kuta
After my visit in Bali, I totally saw why so many expats to move there. Bali is a beautiful, cheap and green tropical island deserves everything that is written about them. If it had better Internet and this load shedding ended, I would move there. Except not for Kuta Beach. Kuta beach is the tourist mecca of Bali. Once you leave Kuta and then the smaller tourist areas of Ubud and the Gili Islands, there are so few tourists you might think to be "discovered" Bali. Then to Kuta again and we regret to say, with its great bars, overpriced clothes, food, large hotels and pink body that yup, Bali was discovered and then some.
I think Kuta Beach is not worth a visit. It is to end a good start and your trip, as is the airport nearby, but if you really want to drink some hardcore do, there is no reason to visit Kuta Beach. Visit everywhere else in Bali! In Kuta, the water is brown and filled with things like McDonalds cups, plastic bags, trash, and God knows what else. The Blue Tropical Water Can not find what you are looking to Kuta. For this go to Nusa Lembongan, East Bali, or the Gili Islands. I would not recommend swimming on Kuta beach. I felt dirty and as I needed a shower.
In addition, the restaurants are not great. You will find too expensive Indonesian food and mediocre western food. There is no really good places to eat here. I found a good Mexican place, and there is the famous woman of the Indonesian restaurant, but the best food in Bali is not found in Kuta. If you fine cuisine, visit beach Ubud or Seminyak. These are where the really delicious award-winning restaurants.
The shopping in Kuta fine and slightly cheaper than elsewhere on the island. South Bali is the most developed and the western part of the island make sense that this would be the best place for shopping. I found all the places in Bali offered a lot of the same tourist clothes and knock offs. I have managed to find a few name brand stores, but they were not as cheap as I thought they would. The best deals were in the huge department stores. I bought new sneakers $ 40 USD. Overall though, I was unimpressed with the shopping at Kuta and would prefer in Bangkok or Singapore Shop.
So without a good beach, no good food, and mediocre shopping what Kuta? Resorts, surf and bars. There are a variety of resorts at $ 50 USD start a night go all the way up to $ 1000 dollars. (Bali has the most $ 1000 USD places in the world!) And if you want crazy bars, giant cups of alcohol, and huge clubs that are open until dawn, Kuta beach is the place to be. Also here is the great surfing and really cheap tuition, but if you want to get in clean water, go elsewhere. There are good surfing throughout the country.
So if you want to enjoy Bali, Kuta drive. Go somewhere else. It's nice to Ubud, the Jatiluwih rice terraces, Nusa Lembongan, Lovina, Amhed ... the list goes on. If you want to make all parties, business, and hanging with tanned surfers in brown water, then Kuta is the place for you.
