My Favorite Cheesy and overrated tourist attractions (and why I love them)
Here's a secret: I love to be a cheesy tourist. As much as I have created off the beaten track and love learning about local cultures, sometimes I love the artificial world of the mainstream travel industry. I think a lot of people to think deeply about traveling, as if every moment must have on the road deep influence and importance. They are too quick to write off mass tourism. I have always found Travelers something "cheesy" avoid some to be my least. By thinking of their travel as a long romantic novel, they tend to be snobs and not only enjoy the moment. Sometimes you just need to take attractions and experiences for what they are: a full, overrated, in trade, mind-numbing and / or pleasant escape
is sometimes travel just to have a good time at a different location with with. Meet new people.
last year I went on a cruise and celebrated at Señor Frog in Mexico. And I had a blast.
So today, let the cheesy tourist indulge in all of us that we do not want to admit that we have, and share some of our favorites. Here are my:
Cruises
Last year I went on my first cruise in more than half a decade, and I had a phenomenal time. For me it was not traveling - it was a holiday. It was a way to relax and decompress. There was nothing authentic about Royal Caribbean "private beach" in Haiti or the cheesy dance parties on the boat every night, but my God, it was fun. During seven days was too much on a ship for me, there will much more cruises in my future. Because sometimes life to sit by the pool with a piña colada in hand while listening for the umpteenth time on the sheet cover Bob Marley.
Disney World
I love Disney World. I love the rides, drink my way around the world at Epcot Center, haunted house, Space Mountain, and feel like a child. to be a child, to do anything about playing so, and it is not only welcome, but encouraged at Disney. Disney is overpriced and artificial, but hey, what's wrong with just enjoying in a mock fantasy land for a bit?
Pub Crawls
Pub Crawls are not the place to find local water bodies, yet they are the place to meet many locals. Instead, they are touristy bars (filled with tourists, of course) find and diluted welcome shots, but I love pub crawl, because part of the fun of traveling to meet other travelers - and pub crawls are an easy way to do that. Maybe we will not see each other again, but for this one night over a few drinks, we are best friends.
The Louvre
The Louvre is one of the most famous, crowded and popular museums in the world. to go through here, through a Tokyo subway station during rush hour as walking (ie, crowded!). For me, there are far better museums in Paris, but hey, it's the Louvre. Why miss? Although the Mona Lisa, the most overrated painting on the planet is, you have to see him go.
Venice
Venice is a beautiful city, filled important historical significance, but it feels like a caricature of himself. I have no concrete data to prove this, but a number of people who are experts in the field have said, there are very few authentic Venetians who actually live in the city. But what is said, get lost in this maze of narrow streets is incredibly fun, the city makes for an amazing backdrop for a romantic holiday, and although a gondola ride is 100 euros, you only live once, right? Let us live the Venetian fantasy.
diving the Great Barrier Reef
Wait, what? This is overrated? Yes, it is! The diving in the reef (at least where the day trips from Cairns to take) is not great, because of the large crowds and overfishing. I almost to every dive expert spoke not see why people were obsessed with the reef that. There are much better dive sites in the country, especially on the west coast. So while you can share the view of Nemo with 50 other people, who cares? It is the Great Barrier Reef! You can see this thing from space!
The Full Moon Party
Every month about 15,000 persons (double during the holiday season) rise on the island of Ko Phangan for this all night beach party. It is the mass tourism in Southeast Asia in the worst case - and it is one of the best fun I've ever had. I enjoy myself so much that I went seven times.
Khao San Road
Bangkok infamous Khao San Road is fully in dirty backpackers, overpriced beers, advertisers and cheesy Red Bull singlets (Standard backpack gear) but it is one of my favorite places in Bangkok for a few reasons: it's great for people watching, some interesting characters to meet, there is always a party, and if you get the main road, you will find some current local Thai- bars. When I lived in Bangkok, we would always go here when we interesting wanted night from a .
Times Square
As someone who lives in New York, I can say that this is a place I rarely visit, and I do not know really someone who either goes there. It is full, it is filled with aggravating tourists who are too busy gawking and taking pictures, instead of walking, and it's totally commercialized, but it is the home of Broadway, you can find many interesting street performers, the M & M store is a piece to see heaven on earth, and sitting on the stairs TKTS offers a great place to find everything.
Leaning Tower of Pisa
Yes, I took the photo. Since I'm trying to keep the Leaning Tower (and in another, pushing it over). In the background, trying to others to do the same. It is absolutely cliché, but hey, who does not have fun playing with perspective?
All Salinen
As the Leaning Tower, the salt pans are fun because you can play with the perspective. Look, it's people on hand. Look, you're lifting a car! See, you are less than a backpack. The list goes on. I mean, salt flats are kind of pretty, but if you have seen once, the rest kind of all the same -. But it is for tens of hours never sit perspective shots boring
For me travel is to learn about the world and learning about different cultures. I like to see how everything and everyone fit into the puzzle together, humanity is.
But travel is also about having fun goes.
Not everything we do has some travelers to be deep, life changing experience. Sometimes it's just relax and cut back, with people from around the world to do during some fun - and is not that what life is about anyway
