I despise Sunny Beach

I despise Sunny Beach -

sunny beach, bulgaria There are not many places in the world that I despise. Places that fill me with disgust. One such place is Ko Phi Phi, Thailand. I've never understood the hype about them or why people like it so much. Unlike a place to buy than to be expensive drinks, it really has no redeeming qualities. Bulgaria Just like Sunny Beach.

For some reason, Ko Phi Phi has remained "to the" place to go in Thailand, similar to Sunny Beach, the hot spot to visit in Bulgaria, especially if you are Russian, English (North English especially) or Scandinavian.

ten years ago it was a quiet seaside town with beautiful beaches and good clubs. But as with so many other destinations in the world, as word about found out how nice it was, it became more popular and built more and more tourists. It went the way of Phuket, Phi Phi Islands and Cancun and turned into a gawdy spa.

Everyone told me, Sunny Beach was a good party, but that is not really the place to sell for me. Another beach party town? Big. I spent three weeks at Ios working on my tan and ouzo-drinking skills. But the people I was with were there heading, so I thought I would join them. We all wanted the same path anyway back to Sofia.

While nightlife is amazing (if you want drunken 18-year-olds to celebrate to 06.00, that is), there's really nothing else special about this place. Absolutely nothing. I was (too long for two nights) for three nights because I was running to friends of Ios.

You're probably thinking, "Come on, Matt, is it really that bad? It must be something nice about it." You're right, there is something about it cute-it has a pretty amazing water park nearby. It is huge and has some great water slides. I love water parks, and that is a really good. But you can go on a day trip from Varna or Burgas to the water park and completely avoid Sunny Beach.

So why I hate Sunny Beach so much?
Well, first, the beach itself. It is covered in beach chairs. So many sun loungers that you can hardly put a towel. I'm not exaggerating. Here's a photo:

sunny beach, bulgaria

Look at all the chairs! This photo is from the end of the beach where there is some sand, but if you look in the distance, look, chairs spreads like a virus. In fact, it is not really a beach as much as a parking lot full of chairs placed over some sand. You should rename this place Sunny Chair.

Next is the water. A few hours north in Varna, the water, though to be close to a port is crystal clear, beautiful and inviting. It was just as wonderful as the water that I played in Greece in. But in Sunny Beach? The water is dirty and filled so large that the coast turned green with algae blooms. When you go in, do a Swamp Thing look.

My Bulgarian friends say that this only happens "sometimes" and that the water "usually" beautiful. But when I pushed a little more, she was only vaguely how little had "sometimes". I have the impression that sometimes might be a little more often than they let on.

Finally, Sunny Beach tacky tourism is central. It's full of glowing neon tubes, bars, try people on the street to get you in their restaurants or clubs, fast food chains, cheesy T-seller, and everything else a built tourist destination has. If you had connected my eyes, drugged me and woke me up in Sunny Beach, I could have, I said in any number of places in the world-Kuta Beach, Phuket, Cancun, a poor Florida was beach town , or any number of cookie-cutter beachy places in the world. There is no culture or uniqueness of this place, except that some characters are in Bulgarian.

Finally, Sunny Beach is filled with people who drink just for a week want to overpay. It's always happy hour there are always free shots, and huge nightclubs go until dawn. I felt like on Spring Break was. But if you really want to go on a binge on the cheap, there are tons of better locations in Europe: Barcelona, Lagos, Ios, Dubrovnik, Varna and Constanj, to name just six. These places have at least some history, culture and charm to them.

In sum, Sunny Beach is a huge tourist trap of a target with a bad beach, overpriced food, tacky bars and souvenir shops, and a bunch of drunks. If this sounds like fun to you, I highly recommend it. But there are better places than Sunny Beach Party. (I know, I celebrated in them). While I love great nightlife, I'd rather party in a place that has a nice beach actually.

If I never see again Sunny Beach, I'll be the happiest man on earth.
