See the theater on the cheap
New York is known for its theater productions. Everyone comes to town dreaming of a Broadway show to see. They do not dream of those theater prices but with a few tickets hundreds of dollars on new and popular shows cost.
Fortunately for half price tickets for Broadway and Off-Broadway shows can be bought at the TKTS booths. Currently, full-price Broadway tickets cost $ 0- per $ 0 so expect $ 60- $ 80 to pay "on the stand." Discount tickets are offered on the same day services, and vary the choice and amount daily. TKTS has a free mobile app, real-time listings of shows and discounts offers. There are three TKTS booths:
- Times Square - 47th St.
- South Street Seaport - On the corner of Front and John Street, (The island between Broadway and Seventh Ave.) near the back of 199 Water Street
- Downtown Brooklyn - 1 MetroTech Center at the corner of Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue promenade
If you prefer the TKTS lines or rather skip to buy your tickets in advance, check BroadwayBox.com that for shows discount codes lists (up to 50% discount). The codes can be used when buying tickets online or at the box office.
Many shows offer a convenient "rush" tickets (ie first-come, first-served tickets) or lotteries on the day of the performance. The manufacturers claim that these programs keep their shows affordable for people of all financial resources, but Rush tickets are usually for sites that do not (ie, front row far side or last row of the balcony) at full price to sell. So the compromise for extreme discounts ($ 27- $ 40) are partial view locations and the morning lines. But be taken for sold out shows "Rush" can be the only cards had. Prices and policies vary, so check each show's website for details. The best source of Rush ticket information is Studentrush.org
Twice a year (just after Labor Day and the beginning of January), Broadway League presented Broadway Week , when most shows provide two for -one tickets. Check NYCgo.com for schedules and information.
