The Saturday City: Edinburgh

The Saturday City: Edinburgh -

View of Edinburgh Castle
The first thing you notice about Edinburgh, is its beauty. The cobblestone streets, narrow quarters, the castle, the Gothic architecture of many of its buildings - it jumps out at you. While the city has a modern section, the charm of the old Edinburgh permeates the entire city.

There is history everywhere you look into this city. One of the real charms of Edinburgh is that it is very walkable and you almost stumble over the story wherever you go. Some of the big things I tripped while I was there:

The Royal Mile
The Royal Mile
Historic street from the Castle to the Palace. A great place to people watch, be seen on sight, and to eat.

St Giles Cathedral
St. Giles Cathedral
These non-technically a cathedral Cathedral (Cathedrals need a bishop and this does not) is very old and very beautiful. Located between the castle and the castle, it is a good place to see stunning Gothic architecture and stained glass windows well.

Small alleys and squares
Little alleys and squares in Edinburgh
All through Edinburgh, one encounters little streets leading to small squares and courtyards. It is very medieval and beautiful.

The MacKenzie Poltergeist
The MacKenzie Poltergeist
Supposedly the spirit of King Charles II torturers, George MacKenzie, Greyfriars cemetery clawing at people roams and leaving traces. In fact, Edinburgh is a big city take a ghost tour of how it is supposed to be one of the busiest in the world.

Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle
Not the best castle in the world, but it has an interesting history, a daily cannon fire, great views, and historical artifacts in it.

The Scott Memorial

Climb the stairs for a good view of the city.

The Elephant House
The Elephant House
Have some tea, where JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter.

Rosslyn Chapel
Rosslyn Chapel
This famous church is the dream of Da Vinci Code-lovers. Even if you do not believe in any of this, the detailed carvings are impressive.

There's more to Edinburgh than just what I listed. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Edinburgh is a great place for people who love art. I missed a few international film and art festivals of about one month. I really enjoyed Edinburgh. It is a major tourist destination but not really. It lacks a lot of the crowds and in your face pandering that many other cities, there have to visit a relaxing place, make
