The Lake District
The Lake District in Cumbria is on the north west coast of England about an hour from the Scottish border. The Lake District is to the north of England, which is in the south of Cornwall, and I can not figure out what I enjoyed more. They are both beautiful.
The lakes are a result of the last ice age. Glacier went from here and cut the U-shaped valleys, which are now filled with water. My friends and I went on a Sunday, and the highways were full of people coming to the south for a relaxing weekend on the lakes. It is easy to see why they all go.
north near Ullswater start, we made our way south to Windermere. The farther we went south, the busier it got. I enjoyed the northern lakes more because of this.
Ullswater is in a rugged area and is surrounded by mountains, hiking trails, and sheep farms. It was very reminiscent of New Zealand and looked much like Milford Sound, but without all the ice. And although Ullswater is the second largest lake in the district, it is one of the quietest.
Pooley Bridge village, situated at the northern end of the lake, is famous for the small stone bridge, the city offers its name. The bridge was nothing special, but the river is shallow enough over and go, despite the cold, in his playing many children had.
South Drive, we passed mountain after mountain and farm to farm. There are a lot of sheep in this area, which is another reason this place can imagine of New Zealand.
We drove through the Kirkstone Pass, the stunning views of the entire area, including a couple of lakes. Small streams trickle down, and there are a number of swimming holes. However, if you go through, you can reach the southern part of the district and the more touristed area. Coming out of the Pass houses all began to until the spring, were more cars on the road, and people seemed to be everywhere.
When we pulled in Windermere, we propose traffic and crowds, and I longed for the rest of the northern lakes. We have since not even stop in Windermere, after 20 minutes around by car, we realized we just could not find a parking space. But I was not too bothered. I like to avoid crowds. Interesting to Windermere, but: the home of Beatrix Potter, the Peter Rabbit has written books, is here
Not only is the Lake District amazing, but all is on the environment also .. My friends live in Lancaster, who was as beautiful. It is a densely populated version of the Lake District, but still has the charm. I woke every morning to the point:
Old stone walls blocked off vast numbers of sheep, rolling green hills on forever in all directions, and tiny English stone houses dotted the landscape. This whole area had an "English country" feel that I have yet to see elsewhere, and join me here took back a few centuries. The whole area is so well preserved and so perfect, you often ask yourself if the locals got together and decided to rebuild it as it was in the 1700s for the tourists. Fortunately, this is not the case. People here have claimed just these old homes of their own free will.
For all the time I have my weekend spent in Lancaster in England, and the Lake District felt the most "English". The cabins, the sheep, the hills, and Sunday venison roast of a man caught this contributes:
