Introduction: The NM Case Study Project
I announced that I four readers plan their journeys from the outset help to end as part of a case study project wanted this site months ago. While I have not talked about this in a long time, it is because I have been busy making it happen. After going through 450 applications and countless follow-up calls, today I want to introduce you to the people that I have worked with in order to realize their dream trip
often people say to me. "Well, of course you can travel. They have experience and it's easy for you because you are a white man from the middle class, but my situation is different because (insert reason here), and that is why I can not do it. "
I do not travel a bit for a few, rich, middle class, or American, which is why I started this program. I have taken on this case study participants to emphasize that people traveling with different incomes, ages, origins and nationalities. Each of these case studies is another story. Of those that a two-week holiday in which to search, for so long as their money lasts, I believe it is an inspiration for all.
My advice is not only for those who is like me, for everyone. - And I want that these case studies to inspire you and help you show
anything is possible So, without further ado, here are the case study participants:
Jianne
Jianne is 27 years old and lives in Manila. She is currently working as a Clinical Research Associate and is to go looking away too early for two weeks next year. She has limited each year vacation time and has no desire to quit her job as a long-term travel is not in their plans. Profit more than a thousand dollars per month, is Jianne challenge to find ways to reduce their spending. She admits she is not the best to save money. In fact, their current spending levels match their monthly income. In addition, the Philippine peso is not very strong, so we need to find a country where their money goes quite a distance.
I will increase their holiday budget will help, and to maximize their short time abroad. During the month we have worked together, we have pursued their costs to determine where it most and discussed the mental connection to intensify between cut their spending in order for a trip, can save to save more. It is motivating to write photos of their desired goals and has now used a "travel jar" change it to save as a constant reminder that now spend means to delay their journey. It also serves as a way to see their savings grow.
Our current goal? $ 300 per month.
Diane
Diane is a 59 year old recent retiree from Toronto, Canada, who save on a fixed income with her husband (although they want to travel alone). Always wanting to Australia and New Zealand to go, she has finally decided it's time to make it happen. While Diane has some savings, she does not want to open up because of their fixed income in too much of it.
At the moment we are concentrating on power their banks to ensure they will not pay fees when they go abroad and getting them signed up for a credit card to earn points. Next, we will be coming up with a provisional itinerary, so we can only estimate how much they need a savings goal and will create.
Jeremy
Jeremy is a graduate student in Charleston, South Carolina lives and holds two jobs: it is a training interpreters in an aquarium and a zookeeper at a state park. He earns about minimum wage and his student debts and rental payments eat half of his paycheck. Jeremy always wanted to travel, but ends up spending on other things its travel budget. He has recently found that there are no tomorrows and decided to pass to make his journey. He is planning a long-term journey and must save enough money to make it happen, although work on the road, his journey will be extended.
Currently, Jeremy is good not overspending. Besides occasional splurges on food, he does not spend a lot of money. Our goal then his income is to increase by one to rent a place on Airbnb, be a driver with Lyft, and to find other sites sharing economy extra income. In addition, we will reward him for a travel credit card deserve to get registered to launch frequent flyer miles.
Sander and Jolien
These two are a pair of North-Holland, who leave their work next year to travel the world without getting concrete plans home , Money is not a terrible problem at the moment, how they plan to work in the beginning of next year, and have already saved more than 5,000 euros and are on the way over 20,000 euros to save for their trip. Just shy of 30, they plan it to Australia at a certain time in their travels on a Working Holiday Visa to make.
Since they are in Europe, they can not benefit from any cool travel hacking techniques, so we're flying to keep the cost low and come up with a budget for their trip would focus. Despite its strong financial profile, we still need to reduce their running costs and the mental link between expenditure and their journey to create (as in Jianne) to keep their budget in check.
Over the next few months, I will be sharing more about the progress of our students - the successes, the failures and the lessons learned. I'm incredibly excited about this project in the hope that inspires others from all walks of life to take the plunge and travel more!
