My (current) Ultimate List Of Travel Movies
way back in 08, I have a list of ten of the best travel films of all time. It's a big list. But 08 was a long time ago. (I have been blogging for eight years really been?! What?!) Since I watch a lot of movies on flights and since then many wonderful and breathtaking journey movies have been made to observe made The Way a few days ago I realized that we are long overdue for a list of my favorite travel films that will inspire you off the couch, pack your bag and head to unknown lands:
Lost to his side a thoroughly nice movie in Translation
, it takes you into the heart of the chaotic Tokyo. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson play two characters in their hotel adrift ... at least until they cut loose and explore Tokyo. They suffer from a self-imposed prison, and that bonds them together. Together they flee with his non-stop energy in Tokyo. The sights, sounds and energy overwhelm you and a flight to Japan booking. It is one of my favorite films of all time.
Whale Rider
I remember this film me when it came out. It blew me away. The story follows a little girl in a Maori village and their struggle to get her grandfather acceptance. But the real star here is the Maori culture. The modern world of a Maori is illuminated on an accurate representation, the wonders and calls the sympathy. I met a member of the proposed stem, while in New Zealand, who said the film greatly benefited his people. This film sparked a fascination with Maori culture, which is part of the reason why I went to New Zealand.
The Lord of the Rings
Another New Zealand-based film, Peter Jackson are award-winning epic from the diverse and beautiful landscape stunned by New Zealand leave. From glaciers rivers, mountains and forests, was New Zealand beauty the star of this film. It launched the modern tourism industry in the country, making it one of the leading destinations for adventurers made. Diehard fans some The Lord of the Rings tours.
Into the Wild
take
Based on a true story, follows this movie Christopher McCandless as he tries, shedding its material life and in touch with real life and nature. After graduation, Christopher sets out on a journey through the United States, before it ends in Alaska. Much of the story is based on second-hand accounts, but the film is a poignant reminder that we could simplify a little all our lives and live just enjoy. It reminds us that travel is not about what we carry with us, but about what we carry within.
In Bruges
Colin Farrell may have thought, a life in Bruges was hell, but the city offers a beautiful backdrop for this comedy. And I must admit, until I saw this movie, I really did not know much about Bruges. Sure, I knew where it was, and that it was famous, but I had never given much thought. After this film I wanted to go to Bruges! It looked beautiful. (And it was now, I can confirm it.) Bruges is a great destination for travelers who want to step back in time to step. This film you have it, including in your next European adventure.
Under the Tuscan Sun
I like Diane not Lane romance films, and this film is totally one of them. Girl feels lost in life, start fresh, true guy, everything works. This film could be any actress star because the actual movie star here is the Tuscany. Tuscany provides the stunning backdrop for this otherwise mediocre film. This place lives up to all the hype that surrounds him, and make you want to leave the house and buy a vineyard in some small Italian village.
Nowhere in Africa
a German film, the true story of a Jewish family follows that escapes the Nazis a farm in Kenya to run. The film deals with themselves as they adapt to their new lives and to cope with the life they left behind. Who are already adapted to a new culture to refer able. It is not always easy, but as this film shows, it is possible if you open. The film is provided in German, but with English subtitles. In addition to an inspiring journey to his film, it's one of my favorite foreign language movies.
Crocodile Dundee
has to start not only these films the short career of Paul Hogan, but they all want an Australian to be. Dundee was the MacGyver of the outback. While the films was a whole generation of people clichéd notions of Australia, they gave the Americans also a connection to the land. How do we, Aussies were freethinking pioneers with a love for the wilderness. While it is cliché and overdone, making Australians a love of nature, sharing, and the film inspires people to visit Oz.
Up in the Air
I live in the airport world. Maybe not as much as Ryan Bingham, George Clooney's character, but when I saw this movie, I found myself the character Ryan too much respect. Although in some ways it is a happy ending, I found the film to be a sedative. I was then depressed for hours, because I see myself in Ryan lifestyle. He is a man who feels at home in airports and airplanes and is constantly in motion. As he says, lives in motion. The film is a must-watch for long-term travelers, as it brings the sometimes mixed feelings us about life in constant motion have.
The Beach
Released in 00, the film Alex Garland follows novel about young backpackers who put to find paradise but in the end, to destroy it, and it had me drooling over Thailand. These beaches, the parties, the people. It seemed wonderful. Backpackers in Asia always reads the book and the film takes place in all guesthouses. It says something about our hopes for the road: we want to find our own idyllic, romantic paradise. The one we all think are not destroyed, but is. The film has a different ending, characters and plot as the book, but the theme is the same. It's a great reflection on the hopes and realities of traveling.
The Motorcycle Diaries
In South America, this film follows the life of Che Guevara from doctor to revolutionary. Actor Gael García Bernal, this poignant story features stunning images of South America, from the deserts in the rainforest. It shows the heartbreaking poverty of time, too. molded and aligned Nicely, this film will make you want to jump on a bike and explore the continent. Even if you do not agree with the politics of the film, her acting is top notch, and this film is about the politics of the man follows. It was critically recognized for a reason.
All Indiana Jones
Indy made every archaeologist and an adventurer. From Egypt to India, Indy showed us the world and the mythology of ancient cultures. The film brought the adventurer in me and helped a love of history support. It did wonders for Petra, Jordan. Who would not want the city after I to see The Last Crusade !? Despite the weak fourth part, these films not only remain some of the best in the travel, but some of the best of all time.
Thelma and Louise
Released in 1991, this tragic story stars Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis as two women in the American southwest in search of adventure and friendship go, while the law to escape. The film is amazing traded, winning many awards, and has stunning photographs of the American West that you want to get in your car and see the country.
Lawrence of Arabia
Released in 1962, this classic Peter O'Toole is set in the First World War and follows the interaction British soldiers with nomadic tribes. O'Toole is united T. E. Lawrence, the Arab tribes against the Turks. With stunning images of the desert, you will soon want your own expedition to lead through the desert, though probably not for the war. Lawrence can remain a controversial figure, but there is no dispute that this is set in an amazing place a great movie.
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
a film about Australian drag queens who take a journey through the desert on a lip sync Show occur. It's funny, it's heart-warming, it received a number of awards. The stars get shocking reactions as they migrate through the outback towards her show, often stopping on the way. Most importantly, it highlights two of the best things about Australia: the Outback and great accents
A Good Year
Made. in 06 and Russell Crowe with, this film marks him as uptight banker who, if returned to his uncle vineyard finds its soul again. All he wants to do, it is for sale and make money, but soon the scenery and a pretty French girls have to change his tune him. (French girl always you have to change the tune!) It is a film for the wine lover, and together with Under the Tuscan Sun , you have to the nearest vineyard heading out before the credits to end.
Euro Trip
backpacking A silly film about Europe, this film will still have all the places they filmed to to want to see. The film takes in the whole of Europe into a maelstrom of cliches, but it's pretty funny, and anyone who has traveled Europe probably relate to some of the situations. The script is not deep, and some of the situations are stupid, but it does a good job, to send you all over Europe and has a very memorable appearance by Matt Damon.
Seven Years in Tibet
This film is about a German mountaineer Heinrich Harrer and his time with the Dalai Lama. Released in 1997 and starring Brad Pitt, it takes an interesting insight into Tibetan culture on the eve of the Chinese invasion. You get a view from the outside on this remote nation and the ruler, who is now in exile in India lives. It is an interesting movie, even if it is not 100% historically accurate.
The Darjeeling Limited
One year after her father's funeral, three brothers traveling across India by train in an attempt to bond to mourn, and closer. When the brothers try to find meaning in their loss, they fight, tease each other, overcome barriers and learn to love India. Although it is not my favorite Wes Anderson film, I loved the film art and landscape of this film. I felt it to do a good job you want to jump on a plane to India.
Midnight in Paris
I every film about Paris quite a lot of love, but that's one of my all-time favorites, not least because it is usually set in the 1920s Jazz Age Paris - the one time period, I would above all others live in. The film follows Gil, a writer on holiday with his fiancee and her family. At night, he wanders through the streets of Paris before going to stumble into a time warp that sends back him in the 20s to be some of the most famous people of the times. With its light, history and incredible drama, this film your heart will fall to make the City of Lights in a swoon. Even if it does at all clichés of Paris, I eat it up!
Monsoon Wedding
This Indian independent film tells the story of an arranged marriage and the modern push back against this tradition of the bride, as the family prepares to organize a four-day wedding. Artfully shot with fascinating characters and beautiful scenery, which is not only one of my favorite travel films (and a phenomenal view of the Indian culture), but one of my favorite films of all time. I recommend you see this movie.
create The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
This movie was better than I thought (and helped a boom in the Icelandic tourism ). Walter Mitty, a man who hates his job and dreams of a more exciting and adventurous life, the connection between life magazine and the mysterious photographer Sean O'Connell. When the magazine wants you to use Sean photographs for the latest edition, Walter realizes he lost it and goes in search of Sean. On the way, he breaks out of his shell, is safer, and begins his reverie into reality. It is a story can relate to most people! Add the breathtaking scenes that they shoot around the world only to the incredible story.
The Way
Someone who knows me well told me to see it, and when I did it, I was blown away. It was an emotional film. I cried a little. The Way followed by Tom, an American doctor who travels to France to collect the ashes of his dead son. His son died on the Camino and he is going to finish it, what his son began. Along the way he does with some other pilgrims and begins to understand why his son loved so much travel. Martin Sheen is incredible in this film, and the film totally made decide to hike the Camino this year me.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona
a Woody Allen movie, this film follows two friends on a summer break in Spain, with the same painters will love how they spend for a holiday in Barcelona. When his crazy ex arrives on the scene, all hell breaks lose. This film not only tells an amazing story, but shows the beauty, excitement and magic of Barcelona (Woody Allen, which is to get it right with you places?).
Y Tu Mama También
in Mexico, this film follows two teenagers and an attractive older woman embark on a journey learn and one or the other about life, friendship and each other. This film has won numerous awards and helped Gael García Bernal to make a star.
Wild
on the novel of the same name based this film follows Cheryl Strayed, as they the Pacific Crest Trail as a possibility of hiking, to start their lives to end their drug addiction and finally cope with the death of her mother. While I loved the book more (I mean, the book is always better), I thought, Reese Witherspoon was a really strong performance, and the film still provides the emotional impact of the book.
Before Sunrise
says relations much about the shortness of the trip, this classic Gen X film about a young man and woman he meets in Europe on a train. Together they have only one night, but it seems to stretch on forever. I like this movie because it with the feeling of playing "travel." On the road feel like day months, and if you are someone special justice, can feel like a lifetime a day.
A Map for Saturday
With this film, I save the best for last. This documentary follows Brook Silva Braga prepares as he prepares for his years of travel around the world. He films the entire trip and it is the best - THE BEST - film about the long-term trips. It captures the fear of your trip, the concern of friends and family, the ups and downs, the fleeting romances, deep friendships and tensions of the road like no other movie has ever made. Of all the films on this list, if you watch, watch this video. Seriously, this is my favorite travel film. I saw it the day before I "settled" home and came down in NYC and it stirred a lot of emotions. (I have an interview with Brook many, many years.)
There are many travel movies are - most of them terribly - but from the many films that I have seen, these are my favorites. What is your
