Saturday Location: Caye Caulker, Belize
OK, it is more an island than a city, but it is still worth mentioning. There is a hammock-lover's paradise.
falls off the coast of Belize, Caye Caulker is paradise. It's small, it's nice, it's young. Everyone is friendly here, and no one moves fast. There are no cars, only a little golf cart, and the motto of the island is "Go Slow". The pace is to run on the island of time, before you know it.
A few years ago the island was much larger, but pulled a hurricane over the table, it split into two, and a lot of the dock area to destroy. But the island has been rebuilt and is still one of the main destinations for travelers to Belize
The disaster created to the best feature of the island. - The Split. The split is a deep trench, which allows for excellent snorkeling and swimming. You can directly see in and jumping rays, sharks, and a wide variety of fish. It is better than any tour you pay.
The split is where the action is. Although the island has a large east facing beach, everyone goes to Split down. There is a small beach, and the old dock provides an excellent place to put your towel to sprawl out. The young and the pale come here to the sun and the day snorkeling, with a nearby bar serves ice cold drinks and music.
The main street is lined with fabulous seafood restaurants, from budget to very posh. Some of the houses around the island rotate in small crickets, with desire Willy is famous. Embark in front of his house, this place is a Caye Caulker attractions served great food from a cool Rasta Koch delivered. There is no menu - they serve what they have that day - but you can not go wrong with what you get, and a free drink is included. For an expensive meal, head to Don Corleone for some pretty good Italian food.
This is a young, lively island, and a good part of the tourists are young, party-minded travelers. You will see how they celebrate all night long in the local bars and incredibly sketchy, but amazingly fun after-hours club.
is with its beaches, atmosphere, a kicking nightlife, good seafood and "The Split", no trip to Belize is complete without a visit to Caye Caulker. Many people go to the upscale Ambergris Caye, but Caye Caulker is the better choice of the two.
Despite the dozens of islands traveled, this location remains one of my favorite destinations.
