The Top 15 historic sites in the world

The Top 15 historic sites in the world -

Parthenon in Athens, Greece
blowing the world with things mind is filled, to see both natural and man-caused. There are so many stunning and incredible historical sites of ancient cultures built, it sometimes is difficult to narrow down which ones are the best. Think specifies all the lists of historical wonders and how different they are sometimes. Each has its own, myself included.

Here are my favorite historical sites that I should think any traveler trying to visit at some point (or not. That is up to you, but I think you should). Telling the story of these ruins is part of human history, and that's why I love the best.

Machu Picchu

located Machu Picchu, Peru, UNESCO, Incan civilization in southern Peru, is this ruined city lies on top of a mountain, which is only accessible by train or a four-day hike , Rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, it was an important cultural center for the Inca civilization was abandoned when the Spaniards invaded the region. (It is known from the so-called "Lost City of the Incas", although the Vilcabamba is actually). The situation was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, and it was in 07, concerns about the growing number of tourists one of the New Seven Wonders of the World have called led to restrictions on how many people can enter the site, though only a fraction of what is necessary. Hopefully they limit it even more this page can last for hundreds of years more.

Tikal
Tikal, Guatemala, Mayan world, jungle trek, temples
This Mayan city-state is one of the largest and best preserved ruins of this civilization and was a dominant force in the Maya world during the classical period (0-00 AD). It is located in Guatemala, this place is you can experience your inner Indiana Jones early in the morning or late at night when the tourists go home and it's just you and the jungle. It is very quiet, and that made for one of the best travel memories I have. Be sure to spend the night in the park, as you really then get to see them without the crowds. We particularly liked to see me on top of the temple to sunrise. (Random trivia: The city at the end of Star Wars :? A New Hope Tikal)

The Pyramids of Giza
The Pyramids at Giza, Egypt, solstice, Sphinx, Great Pyramid, Egyptian Kings
They are more than 3000 years old, and we still do not have a good idea how they were built or the Egyptians did so precise (foreigners were involved?). Align the three pyramids to the stars and the solstices and contain tons of chambers opened yet been (and can not be). I mean, how did they create the small chambers where people can not even crawl? The largest, the Great Pyramid was built by Pharaoh Khufu called and has access limited to them. The pyramids are truly a miracle of human technology, which was fit for kings. (You will find the Sphinx near, another historic site, whose secrets astound researchers and are the subject of many conspiracy theories.)

Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat, Cambodia, temples, Ta Phrom and Angkor Thom, Southeast Asia
This ancient city in Cambodia was the center of the Khmer empire that once ruled most of Southeast Asia. This empire fell, but not before building amazing temples and buildings that were later recovered through the jungle for hundreds of years.

Although Angkor Wat is packed with tourists, it's still stunning to look at. And the temple regions of the north and south to see far fewer tourists than the main temple grouping. (Although admittedly some of them are just heaps of rubble now.)

The most popular temples are Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm and Angkor Thom, and they always have masses. To the temple to really experience, you need to acquire the three- or five-day pass. The best time is early in the morning to visit before the big tour groups arrive and stay late, after they are gone.

was Petra
The ruins of Petra Jordan, tribesemen, Holy Grail, UNESCO site, Arabah
carved into a ravine in Araba, Jordan, Petra from the third Indiana Jones movie famous when he went to find the Holy Grail. The page was "discovered", some local tribesmen followed in 1812 by a Swiss researcher; before that, it had forgotten in the Western world. Although its foundation is not known, it seems this place as the 6th century had settlers before Christ. Under Roman rule the site was quick and was abandoned by the late 4th century. 1985 Petra became a World Heritage Site and was recently named one of the new seven wonders.

Stonehenge
Stonehenge in Salisbury, England, Megalithic, 3,000 years old, rock statues, audio tours, ancient mysteries
Located near Salisbury, England, this megalithic structure is more than 3,000 years old, and its stones come all way from Wales. Scientists are still not sure how the builders got the stones there and tried to repeat the performance, with dismal results. Moreover, we have only a vague idea about its purpose (we generally recommend only). Stonehenge is fenced so far away, and you can not walk in the circle; Visitors can walk around the attraction on foot only. But it is worthwhile for the secret visit behind and an excellent and detailed audio tour.

the Colosseum and Forum
Roman Colosseum, Italy, gladiators, Caesar, Forum, Palatine Hill
the Colosseum and the Forum are next to each other in Rome, so I included them together. Remains of a civilization that once controlled the known world, these sites are breathtaking, not only for their beauty but also for its history and age. You are at the point where Caesar was, and looks into the arena where gladiators fought to the death. The Coliseum has slowly crumbled over the centuries, and much of it is now restricted, especially the floor and the basement, where everything organized. The forum is great to go to (and it's free), although a ticket for the Palatine is required. I would definitely get a guide because the information is submitted by the authorities do not go into much depth.

the Parthenon
Parthenon in Athens, Greece, ruins and temples, Greek civilization, 5th century BC
Although it is currently (and apparently was forever) a face-lift to get, the Parthenon is still amazing and breathtaking. This ancient temple of Athena is a symbol of the power of Athens and a proof of the Greek culture. It also offers a sweeping view of Athens and nearby ruins, the temples and buildings are equally wonderful. Over the centuries, much of it and the surrounding structures were destroyed by war and thieves. Fortunately, is the structure still ... at least for the moment. Note that there is scaffolding along the right side of the structure; considering that it has more than five years, I doubt it anywhere anytime soon goes. They do things slowly in Greece.

Easter Island
the heads of Easter Island, Chile, giant carved heads, island tribes, Moai statues
located in the Pacific Ocean out, Easter Island, a special territory of Chile, is the home of Moai statues, which the only thing left of a culture that once lived there. This huge and impressive carved heads are just another reminder that primitive people do not really all that were primitive. The stones that attract visitors to the island are made of volcanic ash; many remain in the quarry, left behind by the inhabitants as resources on the island left their tribes doomed reduce wars they finally killed.

Taj Mahal, Agra, India, marble tomb built for Emperor Shah Jahan’s deceased wife, UNESCO
Built in the 10s, building in Agra, India, is a testament to undying love. The Taj looks annually between two and four million tourists, so it was in an effort to have on tourism last restrictions to protect the site. However, the greatest threat to air pollution, which destroyed the marble

The Alhambra
The Alhambra in Granada - moorish architechture
The Alhambra is Granada -. And Europe - love letter to Moorish culture, a place trickle of the fountain, leaves, and old ghosts seem a mysteriously linger. Part of the palace, part fort, part of World Heritage, part lesson in medieval architecture, the Alhambra enchanted long a never-ending series of expectant visitors. During the Napoleonic occupation the Alhambra was used as a barracks and almost blew up. What you see today, strong, but has been respectfully restored. Volubilis
Volubilis in Morocco - one of the best preserved ruins
An important commercial center and the southernmost settlement from the Roman period time ~~ POS = HEADCOMP, Volubilis in Morocco is a the best preserved (and frequented least) ruins of its kind in the world. I found it by tourists empty, not built and open in a way that close, you can see and you get up really the structures without back ten meters of barriers and be jostled by crowds. Most of the city has not yet been excavated, so the site has a very raw feel. I have seen on my travels to many Roman ruins, but I love this the best. It's a nice day trip away from the crowds and noise of Fes. Admission 20 MAD (Moroccan Dirham), or about $ 5

Sukhothai
Sukhothai - a collection of temples enclosed by a moat
in a nice hotel located in the north-central Thailand, Sukhothai was for a few hundred years is the capital of Thailand. This is location of tourists is often overlooked how few there to stop to Chiang Mai on the way. The central region has 21 temples surrounded by a moat. The many temples showcase the unique Sukhothai style of decoration, the Khmers (Cambodians) and Sri Lanka incorporating influences. It's a great, great website and taking a good day or two to see. Most of it is exposed to the sun, so bring sunscreen or you will massively get sunburned.
