There is no such thing as a "Must See"

There is no such thing as a "Must See" -

Eiffel Tower
I have to make a small confession. I do not like Berlin. Everyone raves about how great it is, so go in I had high expectations. It was a "must see", said the people. But I do not know if it was the weather, the architecture, or the people, but I did not see what all the fuss was. While I had fun with people away from the hostel, overall, I could do without Berlin.

When most people find out about it, they are shocked. "How could you not Berlin? It was so great." She said. But not everyone will like the same place. There are many cities I do not like. And, as anyone who has read my about me page knows I despise Vietnam.

me think about a larger point made All about traveling. We always hear about the "must see" destinations in the world - places no sane person miss. Who wants to Angkor Wat, Paris, the Great Barrier Reef, the Killing Fields, or Auschwitz?

I skipped the Killing Fields and every concentration camp in Europe to skip. I'm just not interested. why a bunch of old buildings and areas in which many people were killed? For me I would rather go to a museum and to read the story, because that's what's really interesting me . Yes, these places have pictures and signs, but for me, it is not something that interests me.

When I travel years ago started the first time, I chastised a man in Cambodia for Angkor Wat to skip. "How could you miss it? You must at least ensure, if only for a day." I said. But in retrospect, I see that he did not need to go. Travel is not about a list of world sites Abhaken - is about to discover the world, to learn about themselves and to know other cultures and to see what interests you. Yes, we should all move out of our comfort zone, press us, and to try new things. I have found in France marine gastropods tries (they are really good - taste like fried clams) and tried to (slightly) over my fear of heights get

Sea snails and other seafood in France
But take me to a concentration camp. and I'm just bored.

Take me to a museum Holocaust and I'll be there for hours.

Pushing yourself to do new things is one thing, to see things, because someone said it is a "must" is another. There are no targets in the world must see only things that everyone thinks are must see. I'm still guilty telling people to "see this or that". I love Paris and I'm shocked when people do not. "You have to give Paris a chance," I say. But if I take a moment to think, I see that I'm forced to do my opinion about them as people who tell me I need the Killing Fields to see me.

And what is "must see" anyway? A place so amazing that everyone should go to the right? But we all know, no two people do not see life the same thing the same way and destinations this rule to escape. When I saw Stonehenge, I was disappointed. It was just a pile of rocks to me. The nearby town of Salisbury impressed me more. But Stonehenge is a so everyone needs to see it like must, right? It was interesting to see, but I felt no connection. In addition, the Louvre was also disappointing. I like Impressionism Art - the Louvre's most ancient sculptures and Renaissance paintings. I can only see so many images of Jesus and Mary, before I get bored. I'll probably never go back to the Louvre, but I'll impressionistic Musee D'Orsay over and over, and visit again and again. (I was the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam four times.)

must

see is only what we think it to be. People are always guilty telling people around the world, which is a must. We can not expect everyone to like what we like. Sure, there are great places in the world to see, but I do not think that there is something that is must see . I make many recommendations, but these are just my opinion. Does it not legal, it is just right for me. If someone else enjoy Berlin or Vietnam? Of course, but I can only speak about my experience.

But the next time someone tells you that you are crazy for missing some destination or attraction "must see", ask them if they would go something they didn 't like. The chances are they will say no. Then you can just say:

"Exactly This is the same reason why I am not X to place!"
