Why are not edge Most travel tips Cutting:. Thoughts on Travel unchanging nature -

"You're not going to cut the edge to your advice, it is pretty run of the mill. They are also very obviously biased thirtyish toward, white, upper middle-class Americans to be the bohemians, so want to do. "

This quote is from last reader survey month , It cut deep. I stared for a while at it, wondering its effects. I was looking for an e-mail address to see if there was a way to track the person who wrote it, but they decided to remain anonymous.

However, after eight years of writing about travel, I have to say I agree with this criticism (except bohemian - God forbid!). My site is not likely that cutting edge and revolutionary to you if, like me, you've got to keep stuffed with new pages to your passport every few months. I bring this comment because it is actually something I've been thinking about for a while, so it could be seen in the survey stunning.

I have about traveling to the depth covers the last eight years. How many times can you write about light or stress packaging the basics of budgeting, eating local and staying in hostels? Not many. After a while you start the same old things warm up again.

If you are a new traveler, you will read that your opinion will blow and change the way you think about traveling a TON of tips and advice. It will open in a world that you never thought possible and you have to run the door, before you know it.

But for old hats as I while we can here to pick up some new tips and there rarely is it something that we go "HOLY F *** does! The changed everything !!"

Why cutting is an illusion
Unlike other industries where huge changes in technology or think fundamentally change the industry, traveling is basically traveling. There is no great discovery that makes us rethink the life, the universe, or how nature behaves as. In medicine, history, art or science

Travel has just micro shifts. For example, can be cruise ships, larger, have more features, serve better food, and recycle more, but cruising is still essentially the same as 100 years ago: an all-inclusive price you get on a boat, sail around make a few stops to get back on the boat, and head home. The ships have changed, but the overall purpose has not.

The largest displacement travel in recent years, the increase in sharing economy has been, where sites like Airbnb, Vayable, EatWith and CouchSurfing you break out of the ground, commercial travel by helping you with residents to connect, to save money, and tap you know in the local markets.

But while many local and obscure Sharing Economy sites make the "how" to make it easier, they do not change the fundamentals of budget travel: Avoid pack light, the tourist route stay away, eat local, local transport, bank and credit card charges and be frugal. It is much the same today as it was when I first started in 06 on the road -. And when my father so in the 1970s did

This is because the why journey never changes

If you Walden read

, The Innocents Abroad, set on the road, with Charley Travels , or any of a dozen other travel books or decades ago more, you will see the same wanderlust and desire to connect and understand the world as we now have

There is, why do we still read these books -. its themes resonate with us. These old stories express mankind to explore and innate desire to seek for deeper meaning. This desire to learn, to explore, and see the world, is timeless.

and improved tools that can not happen in principle that changing the meaning. Horses and caravans turn into trains, planes and automobiles. Trains get more efficient, become airplanes safer, and cars can go ahead. Timber ships, the huge steamers are now massive cruise ships and yachts Laminates. Star Maps were maps that make in GPS-based Google Maps. We do not need the Pony Express; We have Instant Messenger. We can book a room with an app on our phone! ( Note . The argument is also connected is a for another day).

And even with a new technology, the main way we travel within the budget, is still the same

Yes, traveling has never been easier and changed technology forever as we plan and take trips, but we still have to go for the same reasons. Our why not, even if the Hows amended have an easier time. We can see that if we take a historical book on hand or talk about their trips for travelers of all ages - what motivates us originally and is universal whether you spend a year with the backpack or a week at the spa

and yet there are to share always something new
the information that I (and that of thousands of others) have shared about traveling, was among travelers and locals always there, but hidden, or buried in guidebooks and forums. It was not easy to find, but it was. When I started in 06, traveling, it was not as much information on the journey. I read countless guide and spent hours in forums looking for, the search for tips that I would discover only by experience.

But the Internet and the growth of blogs all that 'hidden' information made much more accessible. They drew the most people (like me) do not know naturally, without having to travel out of the shadows all things - the information not previously shared in the mass media. Thus, this information may seem to have "cutting" at first, but the knowledge and advice were always there.

But this does not mean there is nothing new to learn. I read countless blogs about the latest industry trends to stay, dig some new tips and interesting places to discover I never would have known

Travel makes change all the time. New attractions, hostels and restaurants open; hip places are uncool; and new blogs, services and companies created to make our lives easier.

So there is always something new to learn about the latest travel trends and tricks. Some new as you get on the road better, cheaper and longer.

But most importantly, there are the stories of people, places and hidden activities that you might not have known. otherwise

that is, keeps its travel so interesting - not some revolutionary learn how to find , but a story that reminds of us why performs a history us to a new. Place teaches us something new, reminds us big dreams, and inspired us to finally that the journey we take have always dreamed.

and that is stronger than any new cutting edge tip.
