Bermuda: The Impossible Budget Destination
Is it possible to Bermuda to travel cheap? It's a good question that deserves an answer. When I was 12, my father took my sister and to be surprised to Bermuda my mother who was there with my grandmother on a cruise. We spent four days in the heat stifling, swimming at the beach, and the food in the Henry VIII (where my father swears told me I still can not believe a girl that she had beautiful Hooters. Him).
Lately, Bermuda has been back in my head. I've got to go for a few months and thought since it was a close flight from New York City
And now older and not so much wiser, I wondered. Was the land of the rich people, celebrities, bankers and tax Avoid companies really enjoyed on a budget? Bermuda is not known as a cheap destination. I being the thrifty traveler, am, I did not want to spend much money, but what is the absolute minimum you need while?
As it turns out, quite a lot.
Way more than $ 50 per day.
after my four-day visit there, I can tell you that it is almost impossible to go to Bermuda on a budget. Realistically, you have about $ 175 per day.
Why? There are two main reasons:
First accommodation stupidly expensive (there are no hostels on the island). The cheapest accommodation costs about $ 100 per night for apartments on Airbnb owner or Bermuda holiday homes found. If you book at least one month in advance, or know someone who can be able to find a room for as little as $ 75 per night. (I had at the last minute so ended $ 125 pay per night.)
Second, transport around the island is difficult. The bus system here, while cheap, is rare, and many ways to stop at 19.00. If you do not stay in one place, this can be problematic. In addition, taxis are expensive: a short 10-minute drive can cost $ 20 USD. And when you visit faraway beaches and attractions or come back late at night, you need a taxi anyway. You are guaranteed a day at least to take a taxi.
Thus, it is possible cheap to visit Bermuda?
There are, in fact, spending way less money on the island, but it will take a little more planning and creativity. Here's what you do:
Early booking - If you want an accommodation, you need to book the room at least a month in advance. Avoid hotels and resorts and instead stay in a bed and breakfast or home rentals. If you want to stay with a group, rent definitely a big apartment, since it is far less per person than a hotel room
Couchsurfing -. There are only 15 CouchSurfing host in Bermuda. Many of them have private rooms available but if you want a success in the reservation, make sure you ask really early to maximize your chances of success
Rent a motorcycle -. Motorcycles are the most convenient and economical transport on the island. Since buses are infrequent and taxis expensive, a motorcycle is traveling with you more freedom at a lower cost. Motorcycle rentals start at about $ 50 per day, but are cheaper, the longer you rent; Four days will cost an average of $ 35 per day. Two popular landlords are Elbow Beach Cycles and Oleander Cycles
Stay central -. While Hamilton is not set on a beautiful pink sand beach, it is to leave the city the center for all buses and ferries. If you rent an apartment and are not careful, you can somewhere far away from a bus stop at the end (the more taxis means). Staying in or near Hamilton guarantee you near all the bus lines and to avoid spending too much money on taxis.
Skip the fancy food - there is good food on Bermuda, but it is expensive. Avoid all big fancy restaurants (OK, enjoy a good meal) and go for smaller stands and restaurants, where prices, but is still high, are more economical. My two favorite places were Specialty Inn and North Rock Brewing Co. Cafe in Cambridge Resorts addition adequate although they priced in a resort. Most meals are $ 10-20 USD cost
Cook -. If the hotel and rented skipped an apartment, you can find a kitchen. There is an ever growing local and organic gourmet scene on the island. You can download a lot of cheap fruit, vegetables and meat in the markets and shops that help dramatically reduce your costs.
Overall, if you find a couchsurfing host, you can probably Bermuda for around $ 70-80 USD per day. Otherwise you are at around $ 175 per day in search.
Despite the drain on my wallet, my trip to Bermuda was amazing. As you can tell, everything you have ever heard about Bermuda is true from the photos. This is truly island paradise, pink sandy beaches with warm, clear water lapping.
But what really makes the paradise Bermuda are the locals. The Bermudians were always helpful, friendly and welcoming. Wherever I went people talkative and sincere. The woman in charge of our rented room was very hospitable and made us dinner and breakfast while her family described life in Bermuda (apparently it's not only for the newly rich or almost dead more!). We met a nice man at the bus stop, which happened to us, landed a ride in Hamilton give and then there was the waiter that allows us to have a repeatedly said "Bermudaful day." (Plus countless other little things that made me fall in love made with Bermuda)
So go to Bermuda
, it will not be cheap -... but it is nice to be
