Saturday Location: Kampot
Kampot is a small town on the river, which is mainly from 11:00 am in bed. It is in stark contrast to the loud and late-night clubbing destination, which is its neighbor Sihanoukville. Before the Khmer Rouge, this region of Cambodia used the weekend to be the range for the French, and they decompose still find French villas in the region. Modern Kampot could not have happened destination it once was (it is small, quiet, and run down), but it attracts many people because of the Bokor mountains surrounding and relaxing atmosphere

Fortunately, there are a few activities here to keep you entertained during your visit .:
Bokor Hill Station - Most people come to Kampot to visit Bokor, the old French hillside villa, castle and casino. I missed it in 07 and I am very sad that I did. What was once beautiful ruins only accessible by a dirt road is now a construction site for casinos and luxury villas easily visited by a paved road. This place has ruined to Disneyland, its former historical value. I list here just so I can tell you to skip it. It is no longer the place it used to be
pepper farms -. Kampot pepper is considered in the world because of its strong taste some of the best. Kampot was once one of the largest pepper growing regions of the world (the area of slow time of the Khmer Rouge reconstruction is) and a day trip to a farm is a common activity. It was my most interesting journey, because prior to my visit, I have nothing of pepper knew except that it improves the taste of my food. But to stand next to the high vines, learn to be as different kinds of pepper (pepper is picked at different levels of maturity to get to different colors), I have a new appreciation for the spice.
day trip to Kep - the next big city in the region, Kep is a small fishing village with a very nice beach. There is really nothing to do in this small town except to eat. Kep is famous for its seafood and ground pepper crab is the local court of choice. It makes for a good day trip: go to the markets, eat, chill out on the beach. But when the "rush" of Kampot is too much for you, come in quiet Kep
Cave trip -. There are a number of caves in the region, including one with a religious sanctuary. You can hire a tuk-tuk from Kampot and explore for the day
river cruise -. With a flowing river through the city, it is not difficult, so to be on the list to imagine. If you take the Bokor trip, a sunset river cruise is included. If you do not take the trip, you can still find a boat ride or rent a boat on your own from one of the two tourist offices or fishing on the river.
Eat some BBQ ribs - I never expected that some of the best BBQ ribs in Cambodia to find, but I did. Spend a dinner at The Rusty Keyhole a rack or half rack of BBQ ribs eat. You will be able to enjoy a healthy side of mashed potatoes and coleslaw
Eating durian -. Kampot is the capital of Cambodia Durian. Durian is a fruit found with a very sharp odor in Southeast Asia. Its odor is so strong that it is often forbidden by hotels. Many of pepper farms grow durian, and it is a great monument to the smelly fruit in the center of Kampot. I personally do not mind the fruit. The smell does not bother me too much, and while it is not the best tasting fruit in the world, it is completely edible
See salt areas -. On the way to Kep, you'll find numerous ancient rice fields, which were converted into salt fields. Workers bring in seawater from the coast (by hand) and dry in the fields of sea salt to create. After the water is gone, the salt is packed down, scooped and sold
drinking a fruit shake -. At night, the street is near the old bridge with fruit shake lined provider. You can of vendors to move providers, different smoothie concoctions try to sit on the stands down, and people watch.
I loved Kampot and atmosphere really. It was a complete 180 from busy Sihanoukville. I was surprised to find that in so few places (personal favorite: The Magic Sponge) even to stay, there were still plenty of rooms available. Although a lot of people get stuck here, not many people bother here to venture primarily
, although a shame -., Because they miss out on such a great place - for me is fine. It keeps Kampot quiet and wonderful.
