The Saturday City: Ko Chang
I've never been there in 05. Or 06. Or 07. But I have heard it there at the end of 08, I do rumors and stories about the island since 05, such as tourism had exploded on Ko Chang and neighboring islands. Now there were resorts, travel packages, paved roads and overpriced taxis. However, Ko Chang was not as overdeveloped as the Phi Phi Island, Phuket or Samui by far. And despite the recent rise in tourists in the high season, it was still relaxing.
Ko Chang is the second largest island in Thailand, so there is plenty of room to move and. Away from the crowds The island is definitely seen an increase in tourism in recent years, and while it is a still a relatively "secret" for most tourists, the word travel is in the backpacking / budget scene. The prices on the island are much cheaper compared to other islands and their relative size and location means that even if the island is occupied, it is still not so much going on. Ko Chang is part of a marine park of the same name, and there is plenty in the area to do. Because Ko Chang is so large, it is heavily forested and contains quite a few mountains. Most of the property is located on the left side of the island. The package / high-end tourists end up at Hat Sai Khao beach (White Sands) on top of the island closest to the mainland. Here you are at an accommodation, find decent shops and a relatively nice beach. Or there is the infamous Treehouse Guest House is located on the southern tip of the island right in Hat Yao. It is the only place there, and it is very quiet. They are no loud music or bars can be found here. It is only the Treehouse. The Treehouse is a kind of institution to Koh Chang, and thus is always full. The beach is fine during low tide, although it can be a little rocky. But it's a great place to relax. And if they are fully booked, you can always stay at their second location on Lonely Beach.
When Ko Chang is too touristy for you, you can go to the other islands leave Ko Kood, Koh Mak, Ko Ko Khlum or rank. Fortunately, most of these islands are undeveloped. Many are privately owned and can be rented cheaply. The smaller only have a bungalow or two, and if you are looking from anything to get away - skip Ko Chang and head to these small villages. Unfortunately, however, the larger islands have not escaped development. An island that has really become overdeveloped Koh Mak. However, despite its recent increase in tourism, Ko Chang still has a lot of rest. How long that will last is unclear.
