The Saturday City: Ko Chang

The Saturday City: Ko Chang -

Ko Chang Thailand located near the Cambodian border, I for the first time in 05 on my first visit back in Thailand from Ko Chang I heard in Chang Mai was and two backpackers were arguing about whether I should go to Ko Chang or Koh Samet. At that Ko Chang was a paradise for backpackers. If Thailand had something near "The Beach", which it would have been. There were few tourists on them, no resorts, no organized tours, a dirt road, and only a handful of B & Bs. Since it is away for more than six hours from Bangkok, most people will never visit. You go to the closer, developed sites.

I've never been there in 05. Or 06. Or 07. But I have heard it there at the end of 08, I do rumors and stories about the island since 05, such as tourism had exploded on Ko Chang and neighboring islands. Now there were resorts, travel packages, paved roads and overpriced taxis. However, Ko Chang was not as overdeveloped as the Phi Phi Island, Phuket or Samui by far. And despite the recent rise in tourists in the high season, it was still relaxing.

Ko Chang is the second largest island in Thailand, so there is plenty of room to move and. Away from the crowds The island is definitely seen an increase in tourism in recent years, and while it is a still a relatively "secret" for most tourists, the word travel is in the backpacking / budget scene. The prices on the island are much cheaper compared to other islands and their relative size and location means that even if the island is occupied, it is still not so much going on. However, there was lately to develop a big boost was and also promote the island, and I suspect the peace will end shortly.

Ko Chang Thailand

Ko Chang is part of a marine park of the same name, and there is plenty in the area to do. Because Ko Chang is so large, it is heavily forested and contains quite a few mountains. The island itself is said to have many centuries ago canceled from the mainland, which account for this type of terrain. There are a number of good waterfalls and views of the island. There are a couple of official hiking trails, where you can go on your own and a few unofficial, if you want to discover, though I recommend a local always go with you. For divers this marine park is excellent. There are a lot of reefs around and since Ko Chang is still "on the net", you will find most of these reefs still in tact and not overfished.

Most of the property is located on the left side of the island. The package / high-end tourists end up at Hat Sai Khao beach (White Sands) on top of the island closest to the mainland. This beach, together with the two below, are, were you will find most of the big resorts, expensive restaurants and tourist centers. However, there are luxury resorts and from the island

Most backpackers in one of two places at the end. Lonely Beach, where most of the inns, bars, clubs, and loud music are. Here you are at an accommodation, find decent shops and a relatively nice beach. Or there is the infamous Treehouse Guest House is located on the southern tip of the island right in Hat Yao. It is the only place there, and it is very quiet. They are no loud music or bars can be found here. It is only the Treehouse. The Treehouse is a kind of institution to Koh Chang, and thus is always full. The beach is fine during low tide, although it can be a little rocky. But it's a great place to relax. And if they are fully booked, you can always stay at their second location on Lonely Beach.

Ko Chang Thailand

When Ko Chang is too touristy for you, you can go to the other islands leave Ko Kood, Koh Mak, Ko Ko Khlum or rank. Fortunately, most of these islands are undeveloped. Many are privately owned and can be rented cheaply. The smaller only have a bungalow or two, and if you are looking from anything to get away - skip Ko Chang and head to these small villages. Unfortunately, however, the larger islands have not escaped development. An island that has really become overdeveloped Koh Mak. I had heard this was a piece of paradise, but was sad to see that the island ringed with expensive resorts and expensive prices. Ko Kood is slowly in this way.

However, despite its recent increase in tourism, Ko Chang still has a lot of rest. How long that will last is unclear. I suspect that pretty soon it will be an important target for human might than half way between Bangkok and Siem Reap. But it will eventually, tourism, Ko Samui and Phuket affected makes way here. Take in Ko Chang now, because even at the current level of tourism development, it is still a great place to relax. But that might take much longer.
