Interview with Frugal traveler and writer Matt Gross
In December 09, I saw the Tweet, which has changed my life. It was by Matt Gross, the Frugal Traveler then for the New York Times . He tweeted to ask if there were any travel blogger who earned no money from their blog. I tweeted the Internet equivalent back: "Teacher, you choose me, pick me, pick me!"
And for an interview he did pick me.
I remember lunch me to eat when I got his call and held my Kiwi Experience group while he interviewed me on blogging, press trips, and travel.
a few weeks later my interview went live in New York Times website and within a few hours, my server crashed (First World Blogger problems, right?).
That was my first big break. Everything changed after that date, and the interview led to some amazing opportunities that seemed to have never stopped.
Since this interview, Matt and I have become good friends. We both live in New York City and see each other often (he me just recently got some fiery tripe restarted at a local Szechuan restaurant to eat).
A few months ago Matt published a new book, The Turk, who loved apples. This travelogue chronicles (some) his misadventures in the world, since he teach English in Vietnam after college left.
I had Matt to interview in my apartment above him about his book. Here are two Matts talking travel, (mis) adventures, and if Vietnam is awesome or not (Spoiler: it is not):

I Matts book enjoyed enormous, not least because it is a better writer than me, but also because each chapter has used different story lessons for beginners to mark travelers - from feeling alone to want to go home to be lost, and everything in between. I a series of pages donkey ears.
was one of my favorite parts of the book, as he writes friendships over the ephemerality of travel and the constant goodbyes. As Matt says, "While I would be overjoyed to see her again ... I have no expectation of what will happen, the best and most responsible thing I can do is to remind them to the short pleasures of our. honoring relationship ... and my fingers crossed our paths cross again. "
If you are looking for a good travel book, which offers interesting stories and travel tips, pick up the Turk Who Loved apples . If you're a seasoned traveler, you'll be able to see from his stories many. If you are a new traveler, learn some common travel, to avoid mistakes.
And if you want more of Matt, you do not have the online editor of Bon Appétit and on Twitter find at World Matt World him now. You can pick up a copy of his book on Amazon.
